Position Summary:
Independently researches, conducts experiments, gathers data, develops preliminary findings and prepares written reports for the development of new products beginning at conception through successful commercialization. Selects appropriate methods, tests and procedures for testing. Develops project timelines, creates technical proposals and reports, and makes recommendations. Researches functional and nutritional grain-based ingredients to develop innovative products. Will mentor junior staff.
Assists with finding innovative and proprietary solutions to develop new and improve existing grain-based ingredients in aspects including functionality, taste and nutrition.
Utilizes ConAgra Foods pantry ingredients in the development, testing and processing of bakery & other grain-based foods including yeast-leavened and chemically-leavened dough and batter products (e.g., bread based items, pizza, tortillas, quick breads, laminated dough,), batter & breading, and extruded snacks for the purposes of capabilities expansion and providing customer support.
Executes experiments, pilot and plant trials and analytical testing and also records, summarizes and reports results.
Researches prior art to ensure that R&D efforts are unique.
Participates in technical meetings by suppliers and universities in areas of technical, functional or clinical significance related to projects or for knowledge acquisition.
Records formulas, data and observations using approved data-recording system.
Execute product development for activities across designated product categories including benchtop prototypes, hands on plant testing, and scale-up.
Assist in the coordination of all aspects including nutrition information, ingredient statements, packaging, Labeling, and documentation, etc.
Support product development activities for secondary categories as needed
Partner with ConAgra?s Culinary Team to translate standard recipes into commercially viable new products
Work with the plants to define quality standards for key attributes, and write detailed, accurate specifications.
Execution of testing and implementing continuous improvement, contingency improvement and cost savings opportunities
Participate in Central Location testing, sensory evaluation testing and market blitzes for new and core products.
Prepare written and oral technical presentations for internal and external customers.
Act as a subject matter expert in training management as well as hourly employees on technical issues that will aid in their decision-making and job performance and lead to higher quality products for the customer.
Design and improve evaluation procedures for new and core products.
Position Requirements:
BS in Food Science or Engineering required. MS preferred
Minimum 5 years of Food industry experience.
Experience with the foodservice industry preferred
Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to effectively communicate, influence and interact within a cross-functional organization.
Familiarity in Microsoft Office products.
Ability to travel up to 50%, primarily domestic travel to CAG manufacturing facilities and offices. Must be able to travel independently and as a responsible ConAgra Foods representative
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and handle up to 50 lbs.
Some lifting of packages and materials up to 25 lbs.
Use of basic lab equipment and Pilot Plant equipment, with appropriate supervision.
