About the Position:
Reporting to the Head of Global Procurement, the Market and Supplier Development Manager sets and implements a strategy to identify and qualify new, best-value suppliers through non-traditional markets, ensuring National Grid drives maximum value from its supply chain without compromising quality.
Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Lead the strategy development and implementation plan for National Grid?s market and supplier development, ensuring:
Non-traditional sourcing options are identified and appraised to deliver value-adding options that optimise value for National Grid.
National Grid builds and maintains a diverse, globally oriented supply base through focused resources that proactively scout and develop suppliers in non-traditional markets.
National Grid?s reputation risk is managed (through collaboration with other parts of the function, business and external bodies) throughout the pursuit of non-traditional markets.
Deliver and maintain an effective market and supplier development governance plan, ensuring that the appropriate and ethical sourcing methods are applied to the identification, appraisal and management of non-traditional markets.
Collaborate with the Procurement CSR team (Global Procurement Strategy), Corporate Affairs, Legal, Regulation and other parts of National Grid to ensure that National Grid?s reputational risk is managed throughout the pursuit of non-traditional markets (e.g., avoiding potential markets where modern slavery is a prevalent issue).
Undertake research and analysis of potential markets, supplies, and global cost of materials trends, ensuring that information (i.e., security of supply) is shared across the Procurement function to drive decision making and inform category / contract / business strategies.
Lead a highly motivated, innovative and value-focused team, developing talent and a performance management culture that drives value through employee engagement which successfully meets or exceeds all strategic objectives for the area.
Provide support to business wide change activity, role modelling new ways of working and supporting the delivery of elements of the programme to ensure capability is improved and value added to the business.
Knowledge & Experience Required:
Ability to communicate dynamically at all levels within National Grid and externally to senior leaders within supplier organizations (including C level executives).
Experience of managing procurement activities and delivering procurement value.
Experience of using business intelligence to leverage opportunities and deliver targets.
Good understanding of broader business objectives and the implications of strategic planning and actions within the category on the regional/global businesses.
Expert influencing & negotiation.
Relationship management experience, driving commercial value and performance.
Ability to deal with ambiguity and the corresponding ability to make decisions or recommendations on incomplete information.
Experience of successfully identifying and engaging non-traditional supply chains.
Bachelor degree or equivalent.
