About the Graduate Development Program:
National Grid?s Graduate Development Program (GDP) is the company?s flagship pipeline program, targeting recent college graduates joining the company in entry-level full Time positions. the GDP is designed to prepare early career professionals for future leadership roles within the organization, aims to support Graduates in developing as leaders, guide their career, and increase their business talents and skills. It provides opportunities for Graduates to explore a broad range of disciplines across our functions and locations, work on a variety of projects, and expand their network.
Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an 8-week Orientation. Graduates will spend Time learning the core functions of the business, networking with our Executive team, and traveling to our different jurisdictional areas. By the end of Orientation, Graduates have an in depth understanding of who National Grid is as a company and how we do business. They have also formed a network with their fellow Graduates as well as senior business leaders, key GDP stakeholders and GDP Alumni. Graduates also take part in quarterly development sessions with their cohort as well as complete a Capstone Project at the end of their first year with the company.
About the Position:
This role supports a wide range of activities that impact and contribute to the success of the Complex Capital Delivery organization (CCD) which is part of the US Gas Operations business. CCD is responsible for contract activities supporting the US Gas business and to deliver capital gas projects in the northeast US region. the position is intended to provide exposure to all parts of the CCD organization, through a rotation schedule. the initial assignment will be with the Process, Performance & Compliance team for a minimum of 6 months and then subsequent rotations to Contract Management, Project Management and Complex Construction (to be arranged based on availability and the GDP?s interests).
Individuals in this role will gain exposure to corporate and external compliance requirements, Project Management and Business Process Management frameworks and Safety programs. They will also gain general knowledge of the gas pipeline industry, utility construction practices, governance/risk/compliance frameworks, project management fundamentals and activities required to secure and manage 3rd party contractor resources. This role will work collaboratively with all levels of the CCD organization and stakeholders across the wider business as appropriate to execute tasks and projects
Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Coordinate Business Continuity Plan activities across CCD
Support departmental process improvement activities in order to achieve efficient work practices and to ensure compliance with National Grid policies and procedures
Serve as the liaison for CCD to the compliance reporting, risk management, and Records Management coordinator and other processes as requested.
Support/lead communications activities including department road shows, newsletter, staff meetings and developing presentation materials.
Provide support to CCD VP as requested including executive / department level reports
Perform compliance-related assurance activities (e.g. audits and assessments)
Assist in coordinating Safety Leadership Day events and activities.
Complex project support
Lead department HUB meetings and regularly update the VP HUB board
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor or Master?s degree from an accredited institution
Concentration in academic studies in an engineering or business discipline
Graduated between May 2017 and May 2018
Earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher; official college transcript required for confirmation
Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills
Preference given to candidates with relevant internship experiences
Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program June 4, 2018
Valid driver?s license with safe driving history
Proven leadership experience in at least one of the following:
College leadership position (e.g., student government, clubs, athletics).
Leadership and/or volunteer experience, in and/or out of the college environment
Experienced a full or part-Time job while at college and acquired relevant work experience
Strong demonstrated skills in the following areas:
Written and oral communications, including developing and executing communications through various mediums including verbal presentations, emails, PowerPoint, conference calls, and other appropriate methods.
Organization and management of multiple tasks / priorities to deliver high results.
Collaborative and teamwork mindset
A self-starter, with initiative to drive own performance and knowledge gain.
Displays commitment to safe and productive work environment through consistent actions, beliefs and personal conduct.
