Job Summary
TheSubstation Engineer may work within a multi-discipline team to developefficient and reliable design of electrical systems and components forSubstation Facilities in accordance with applicable industry codes andstandards.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform the detailed design of low to extra high voltage substations including, but not limited to:
- One-line diagrams
- Schematics
- Wiring diagrams
- SCADA
- Communications
- Station physical layouts
- Sections/Elevations
- Cable and conduit plans and details
- Ground grid design and details
- Foundation plans and details
- Structural plans and details
- Control enclosure design and details
- Lightning protection plans
- Yard lighting plans
- Bills of Materials
- Site visits
- Support QA/QC for deliverables to clients.
- Learn, understand, and adhere to client standards and processes while working individually or within a team to complete complex and technically challenging designs.
Qualifications, Knowledges, Skills andAbilities• BSin Electrical Engineering required, MS preferred;
• Three(3) to five (5) years' experience in detailed design of low to extra highvoltage substations;
• Familiaritywith all electrical and control systems and all applicable industry codes andstandards;
• Workingknowledge of the NEC and other regulatory standards;
• Abilityto understand and perform basic calculations;
• Abilityto understand and utilize client or company provided specifications;
• Abilityto utilize applicable engineering software and established technical tools;
• Abilityand availability to work on multiple projects simultaneously;
• Abilityand availability to work overtime as needed based on project;
• Abilityto effectively communicate technical information verbally and in writing todifferent audiences (electrical design staff, clients, etc.);
• BasicMicrosoft Office skills with proficiency in Excel required;
• Abilityto interact with staff at all levels.
Working Conditions• Work is primarily conducted in an officeenvironment (Private or Semi-Private Office) but also requires occasionaltravel to off-site work locations;
• Field duties require outdoor work in aconstruction site type atmosphere;
• Interaction with other team members, as wellas supervisors and client personnel;
• Working on a construction site or in plantand/or shop areas around production machinery with extreme noise levels
• Must be able to wear safety equipment asrequired by the safety department for personal protection;
• May be at more than one job site in a day andmust be able to tolerate climate changes;
• May be required to travel out of town on aperiodic basis.
Physical Requirements - Must be able to lift and carry 20 pounds
