DETAILS ABOUT THE ROLE, REQUIRMENTS, BENEFITS, AND HOW TO APPLY

This position is technically responsible for the support of the metallurgical facility through sample preparation of testing materials using cutting saws, CNC machines and other HAAS lathes and equipment.

Primary Responsibilities/Key Attributes*:

  1. Shop Activities: Performs a variety of Machine Shop duties, ensuring the overall efficiency of sample production.
  • Prepares samples using multiple machine tools including sample cutting, milling, grinding, and macro-etching. Sets up and operates machine tools.
  • Maintains facility and equipment, including preventative maintenance.
  • Responsible for proper chemical hygiene and safety for all areas of the facility.
  • Primary duties with cutting machines, HAAS machines and lathes
    • May be trained to operate HAAS CNC Mill
  • Adheres to laboratory safety standards.
  1. Sample Tracking Activities:
  • Tracks supplies received and distribute to requisitioner in a timely manner.
  • Notifies requisitioner of all backordered items or items not received.
  • Delivers samples to sample submission department.
  • Prepares paperwork for sample returns, pull samples from storage bins and ship back to customer.
  • Maintains detailed tracking records.
    • Serves as a liaison to our lab and responds to internal calls of this nature.
    • Supplies technical information to sales department regarding capabilities and testing methods.

Incidental Functions:

  • As required.
  • Adheres to quality and safety standards.

Supervisory Responsibility: Backup to CNC and Saw Operator

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience):

  • At least 2 years experience working full-time in a machine shop or materials testing laboratory.
  • Some Trade School Training and/or Certification (ideal)
  • Ability to edit CNC machining using G and M-Codes (preferred)
  • Familiarity with the sample preparation techniques for a variety of alloys. Includes manual and automatic sample preparation techniques.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to organize and multi-task.
  • Strong mathematical skills.

Work Conditions/Physical Demands:

General machining environment: includes sitting, standing and walking; infrequent lifting of up to 50 lbs., pulling, pushing, carrying, reaching, bending, twisting, climbing, squatting, and crouching. Frequent use of machinery with moving parts.
