Responsibilities

Basic Purpose

Coordinates the preparation and review of the NV Energy, Inc. (“NV Energy” or the “Company”), Nevada Power Company and Sierra Pacific Power Company (together, the “Nevada Utilities”) financial statements based on generally accepted accounting principles (“GAAP”) and compliance with Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (“FERC”) Uniform System of Accounts for reporting financial results to management and for use in external financial reporting. Responsible for ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of all financial statements; overseeing the implementation of new accounting guidance and Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”) and FERC rules; provides support and direction to the business; manages the information provided to external auditors; and coordinates the compliance activities relative to certain provisions of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002. Coordinates work with Berkshire Hathaway Energy Company (“BHE”) corporate accounting organization. Supports the NV Energy regulatory team in preparing written testimony, regulatory responses to data request and other similar work, as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Coordinates the preparation and review of NV Energy’s internal monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and consolidations in accordance with GAAP and within BHE reporting requirements. (60%)

  • Oversees the monthly accounting close. Coordinates with all areas of the Company to ensure transactions are properly accounted for in the financial books and records. Provides accounting guidance and training to business units.
  • Directs the preparation and review of accruals, routine and non-routine journal entries, analyses for narrative for quarterly and annual SEC reports for all companies, including the design and modification of reports used for analysis.
  • Manages the preparation and review of reports, journal entries and reconciliations related to debt, intercompany, labor overhead rates, escheatment, cash receipts and miscellaneous accounts receivable of the Company and monitors related accounting areas.
  • Directs the preparation and review of NV Energy’s cash flow statement and variance analysis, including responses to information and data requests received from BHE.
  • Manages the preparation and review of NV Energy’s consolidation process within the BHE requirements.

Provides support to the regulatory team with federal and state regulatory filings, preparing and potentially sponsoring testimony, responses to data requests, and other similar work as needed. (10%)

Implements new and maintains compliance with existing accounting and reporting policies and procedures in coordination with external financial reporting. Stays current on any new GAAP, SEC and Public Utilities Commission of Nevada (“PUCN”) pronouncements and regulations and implements in a manner consistent with the requirements. Maintains the PeopleSoft general ledger system including testing upgrades and maintaining the chart of accounts, validation rules, allocations, trees and reports. (10%)

Coordinates and manages the external audit work paper preparation, the review and resolution of issues, audit implement audit process improvements. Coordinates the department’s compliance activities relative to Sections 202, 302 and 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, consistent with BHE corporate policies. (10%)

Performs administrative activities necessary for the effective management of the department, including employee safety; selection and development of employees; salary administration; budget administration; employee counseling and motivation; organization goals and objectives; and planning, organizing, integrating, measuring, and reporting the work performed within the department. (10%)

Monitors and enforces all compliance requirements for area of responsibility.

Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Essential Education, Skills, and Environment

Education and Work Experience
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school in accounting or related field and 6 years of progressive work experience. If degree is in a related field, must have college level accounting coursework required for Nevada CPAs.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrated knowledge of:

  • Technical accounting rules and regulations
  • Financial reporting requirements
  • Accounting close process

Skills such as:

  • Analytical, problem-solving and decision-making
  • Oral and written communication
  • Leadership and interpersonal skills including negotiation, persuading, motivating, and other face-to face skills in dealing with people
  • Project management including prioritizing tasks, managing multiple issues concurrently and meeting specific deadlines or other time constraints

Compensation

Annual Salary: $119,400 (Min) to $140,400 (Mid); Up to 15% Short Term Incentive Plan target opportunity at the discretion of the company. This is a non-represented position.
