General Summary: The Assistant Professor of Nursing Lab and Simulation Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the laboratory and simulation academic coordination of the Nursing Program. These duties are performed in the fall and spring semesters, with two reassigned times per semester as well as stipends for duties that must be performed outside of the 10-month contract.

The Assistant Professor of Nursing Lab and Simulation Coordinator works with the course faculty, program coordinators, and the Senior Director of Nurse Education in the leadership, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the program and participates in college service as well as student advisement. The Nursing Simulation/Lab Education Coordinator is committed to inclusive excellence, equity, diversity, and continuous professional improvement.

Simulation/Lab Coordinator Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with course faculty, program coordinators, and the Senior Director of Nurse Education to establish annual goals for lab/simulation development that support the nursing program and enhance student learning.
  • Collaborate with course and program coordinators to organize, develop, and schedule student lab and simulation experiences in each program and each program option.
  • Schedule and chair meetings for the lab and simulation faculty.
  • Establish and maintain policies, processes, and procedures to guide student learning and use of laboratory and simulation spaces.
  • Coordinate staffing for the lab/simulation area in collaboration with the course faculty, program coordinators, and the Senior Director of Nurse Education.
  • Work collaboratively with the Nurse Education Department Chair in the resolution of faculty, or student concerns as they relate to the lab/simulation areas.
  • Provide assistance to the Senior Director of Nurse Education and program coordinators by contributing expertise in the evaluation of adjunct faculty in the laboratory or simulation setting.
  • Serve as liaison between lab faculty and the courses in each program and all program options.
  • Communicate with faculty to ensure consistency of laboratory and simulation activities that are aimed at meeting student learning needs.
  • Monitor the communication process between referring faculty and lab faculty with regard to lab referrals (tutoring) to ensure faculty have adequate information to provide targeted tutoring and clinical faculty receive timely feedback regarding student progress towards meeting learning outcomes.
  • Provide lab tours to prospective students and visitors as requested and promote positive image of lab facilities.
  • Integrate Nurse of the Future Competencies throughout the simulation/lab curriculum to align with the programmatic student learning outcomes and national standards established for entry into practice.
  • Develop simulation applications and scenarios in coordination with nursing curriculum outcomes.
  • Assist in the development of clinical and lab simulation student guidelines and related documents in accordance with national standards.
  • Develop laboratory-teaching schedule each semester.
  • Orient current and new faculty to the laboratory spaces and equipment, and train, or assist with obtaining training of faculty in the use of the simulation spaces, equipment, and technology as applicable.
  • Facilitate resource allotment (faculty, supplies, equipment, time) to support student learning.
  • Maintain laboratory environment to assure lab security, cleanliness, organization, and safety.
  • Monitor lab and simulation equipment and perform routine assessments including preventive maintenance to ensure proper functionality.
  • Ensure lab contains necessary equipment and supplies to enable faculty to utilize lab effectively for teaching activities.
  • Coordinate and request the purchase of supplies and equipment.
  • Receive, audit, and store supplies in designated locations, and updates lab directories.
  • Identify new technologies, then receive input from faculty and submit recommendations to Senior Director of Nurse Education regarding integration into lab activities.
  • Submit written and verbal reports to the Senior Director of Nurse Education at conclusion of each semester.
  • Participates as Nursing Program representative on college FSA committees.
  • Other duties within the program/department as needed or as assigned.

Faculty Responsibilities:

  • As a full-time faculty member, responsibilities include Laboratory/SIM instruction, didactic presentations, demonstrations, use of simulation technology, skill remediation, and evaluation of skill competence.


Job Requirements:
  • Compliance with of Massachusetts Board of Regulations in Nursing 244 CMR 6.04(2)(b).
  • Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse license in good standing.
  • Master's Degree in Nursing.
  • Minimum of two years full-time experience in nursing, or its equivalent, within the last five years and evidence of clinical competence in the area(s) of clinical instruction.
  • Develop and maintain competence appropriate to teaching responsibilities including, but not limited to a) orientation and mentoring to the nurse educator role; b) knowledge of M.G.L. c. 112, §§ 74 through 81C and 244 CMR; c) participation in professional development in nursing education such as certification, continuing education

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in nursing education.
  • Experience in nursing leadership and/or management.
  • Knowledge of International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INASCL) Guidelines.
  • Advanced practice (CNE/CNECl/SIM) certification.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the role of the community college in higher education.
  • Membership in professional organizations.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills.
  • Experience in collaborative work environments.
  • Knowledge of cultural competency skills framework.
  • Bilingual skills a plus.

Salary Range: $75,232 is the starting salary for Column H under the MCCC 2025 Salary Grids for an Assistant Professor; actual salary commensurate with academic background and experience.
