Position: Postdoctoral Research Associate

Description: The Office of Population Research (OPR) at Princeton University is seeking a postdoctoral or more senior research associate to join a team of researchers working on an NIH funded project focused on developing new systems models to examine social and biological drivers of infection inequality. The overarching goal of this postdoctoral position is to advance the use of mathematical and statistical models of infectious disease transmission as tools for anticipating and addressing socioeconomic and geographic inequalities in infectious disease morbidity and mortality, with a particular focus on the impact of these factors on minoritized and marginalized groups (e.g. race/ethnic, sex/gender minority groups as well as others with stigmatized identities). This requires an individual who is methodologically and theoretically adventurous, committed to health justice, and who is excited to stake out new terrain at the intersection of social demography, infectious disease epidemiology and social epidemiology. The individual who fills this position will work directly with Dr. Sanyu Mojola at OPR, Princeton University; as well as key collaborators at the University of Michigan School of Public Health including Dr. Jon Zelner (Project PI), Dr. Marisa Eisenberg, Dr. Emily Martin, and Dr. Abram Wagner; Dr. Nigel Paneth at Michigan State University; and Dr. Merlin Chowkwanyun at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health. Responsibilities Conduct collaborative research on the biological and social determinants of infectious disease risk. Work with Dr. Mojola and other team members to identify and examine existing theoretical models of infectious disease transmission and then develop novel theoretical models that account for structural drivers of infection inequity drawing from a range of fields. Work with Dr. Zelner, Dr. Mojola and other team members to develop novel quantitative models of infectious disease transmission, drawing from the theoretical work. Writing and publication of peer-reviewed manuscripts. Engagement with government and community stakeholders and partners. Presentation of research at local, national and international conferences and meetings. Additional Information: Applicants must hold a PhD in demography, sociology, epidemiology, or a related field. The work location for this position is in-person on campus at Princeton University. The position will also involve occasional travel to meet with collaborators in Michigan.
