Description

The university's Internal Auditor will perform audits of the organization's financial and information systems to assess compliance with applicable standards and guidelines, will measure the sufficiency of internal controls, and will identify and recommend strategies for mitigating financial risks and improving organizational efficiency.

Examples of Duties

  • Audit the university's financial records, statements and reports, verifying accuracy, consistency, and compliance with appropriate accounting principles and standards.
  • Review internal controls, policies and procedures for effectiveness and compliance with appropriate accounting principles and standards.
  • Identify and recommend revisions and improvements to university accounting practices and procedures.
  • Identify and propose strategies to mitigate as appropriate the financial risks of the institution.
  • Monitor internal compliance with compensation policies, spending policies, inventory reporting, and procurement policies and best practices.
  • Produce cyclical and as-needed reports, including variance reports, and communicate findings on an on-going basis to the university president and/or chair of the Board of Governors Finance and Administration Committee.
  • Remain current on appropriate accounting standards and communicate forthcoming changes to standards and their potential impact on financial statements and/or reporting requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accountancy, Business, Risk Management or related field (required)
  • Minimum one year of related experience (required)
  • Experience with the Banner ERP system (preferred)

Required Skills and Abilities
  • Extensive working knowledge of financial accounting and reporting.
  • Excellent report-writing and general communication skills.
  • Ability to engage professionally, collaboratively, and effectively with university constituencies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with accounting software and Microsoft Office (or related).
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining attention to detail and organizational skills.


Supplemental Information

The internal auditor will report to the president of the university for day-to-day activities but will have a dotted reporting line to the chair of the Board of Governors Finance and Administration Committee.

Special Instructions:

Full-time benefits-eligible position: Benefits include competitive salary; health, dental, vision, life insurance, AD & D, long-term disability; 3 weeks paid vacation per year; 3 weeks of accrued sick leave per year; 13 paid holidays; retirement; and generous education assistance for an employee, spouse and dependent children taking classes at UCM.
