Alfred State College invites applications for a Promoting Recruitment, Opportunity, Diversity, Inclusion and Growth (PRODiG+) fellow in Architecture and Design. The program is designed to achieve the following two goals: (1) increasing the number and share of excellent diverse faculty committed to advancing the ideals of diversity, equity, and inclusion; and (2) strengthening the pipeline for retention and support of these candidates.

The Architecture & Design Department seeks a dedicated and innovative instructor to serve as a SUNY PRODiG+ Fellow. Successful candidates will teach courses in architectural history, design studio, and other areas of expertise, and will also guide students in internships and research projects.

Additional duties include student advisement, participation in student recruitment efforts, curriculum and course development, and contributing to college and departmental service initiatives. The ideal candidate will:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, student engagement, and collaborative departmental growth.
  • Be a capable instructor who is comfortable working directly with students in the classroom and design studio
  • Be a talented designer who can develop dynamic projects with content that will challenge students from an applied learning and critical thinking perspective, and also meets NAAB and CIDA student performance criteria
  • Proficient and comfortable with technology (hardware and software) programs used in architectural firms and practice and willing to keep current on advancements in professional and instructional technology

This position provides an opportunity to inspire and mentor future professionals in Architecture & Design while contributing to the continued success of the department.



Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • M.Arch, Ph.D. or D.Arch or relevant terminal degree from an accredited institution completed prior to the start date
  • Be eligible to work in the United States without a visa sponsorship
  • Demonstrate personal, academic, and/or work experience engaging with diversity, equity, and inclusion and/or a commitment to facilitating and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in the campus community. Such experience may include, but is not limited to, an academic/scholarly track record focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion; work, volunteer/ unpaid/community service; or related experience/expertise in serving underserved or vulnerable areas and/or populations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Candidates who are: Current SUNY students, alumni, and/or Fellows, from a low-income background (e.g., Pell-eligible as undergraduates), are first-generation college students (students whose parents have not earned a bachelor's degree), have overcome adversity, are AmeriCorps alumni, or are veterans.
  • A degree in Architectural History and/or have proven academic experience in the development and delivery of architectural history courses
  • Professional Architectural Licensure
