Description:

The Shop Manager leads and supports a team of skilled mechanics responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of construction equipment. This role involves hands-on technical knowledge combined with leadership capabilities to ensure operational efficiency, equipment safety, and adherence to company and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will possess a strong mechanical background, especially in diesel engines, hydraulics, and DOT compliance

Requirements:

  • Supervise and coordinate daily shop operations and mechanical staff
  • Manage maintenance and repairs for a variety of equipment including sweepers, milling machines, road stripers, diesel and propane heaters, and other heavy-duty machinery
  • Oversee preventative maintenance programs using manufacturer manuals, electrical/hydraulic schematics, and industry best practices
  • Ensure accurate diagnostics and timely repair of mechanical issues including diesel engines, A/C units, hydraulic systems, and welding/fabrication tasks
  • Conduct quality checks on completed work to ensure proper equipment performance and safety
  • Perform and ensure completion of DOT inspections in accordance with regulations
  • Monitor shop workflow, assign tasks, and manage priorities to meet deadlines
  • Provide training, guidance, and support to mechanics while fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, schedules, and reports
  • Perform all other duties as required

Experience Required:

  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience as a heavy equipment mechanic
  • 2+ years of supervisory or leadership experience in a shop or maintenance setting preferred
  • Proven knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and DOT standards
  • Experience with welding and fabrication techniques

Skills Required:

  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve mechanical issues efficiently
  • Excellent time management and multitasking abilities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong understanding of OSHA standards and equipment safety practices
  • Effective communication and organizational skills

Education Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Degree or certifications in mechanics, or similar field preferred
  • Must have a valid Class B Driver's License and a clean driving record, Class A License would be strongly preferred (Haz Mat endorsement, or ability to obtain one)
  • Provide your own basic hand tools (specialty tools needed for the job will be provided for you to use at work)

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and/or transport 50+ pounds
  • Manual-hand-finger dexterity and eye-hand-foot coordination
  • Must be able to work in internal/external environments that may be in harsh weather conditions

Work Environment:

  • Regular travel to and from job sites >10% of the time
  • Frequent exposure to various weather conditions, dust, fumes, and hazardous materials such as solvents, adhesives, paints, hot oil and other chemicals
  • Combination of office and fieldwork, requiring adaptability to various environments and conditions
