Research Specialist I

US-NJ-Princeton

Job ID: 2025-20616
Type: Full-Time
# of Openings: 1
Category: Research and Laboratory

Overview

The Krienen Lab at Princeton University is looking for an experienced research technician to work as a full-time Research Specialist. Research in the lab focuses on understanding genetic influences that shape the development and evolution of the mammalian brain. The individual will participate in research projects and work closely with other lab members and the PI. We use a wide range of molecular biology and neuroscience techniques, particularly focused on single cell genomic sequencing (transcriptomics and epigenomics) to understand cellular and molecular diversity in mammalian brains.

The ideal applicant will be an energetic, self-directed learner with strong programming abilities and a keen interest in the lab's research. Prior expertise with single cell genomics, cell culture or next generation sequencing is advantageous. This is a one-year term position with the possibility of renewal, starting in the spring or summer of 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Support research projects and could include one or more of the following, depending on the applicant’s skill set:
    • Conducting molecular biology experiments, particularly single cell sequencing experiments involving profiling the molecular contents and biological states of thousands of individual cells in brain tissue.
    • Contributing to all aspects including planning experiments; extracting cells or nuclei from brain tissue; sectioning, staining (smFISH/IHC) & imaging brain tissue.
  • Managing the animal or cell culture resources in the lab;
  • Collecting and analyzing data
  • Maintaining and ordering lab supplies/equipment

Qualifications

Essential

  • Bachelor's degree in neurobiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, computational biology, or a related field is required.
  • Must have research experience, including familiarity with at least one approach used in the laboratory (but more than one is a plus): animal husbandry, molecular biology, cell culture, genomics, or computational techniques.

Preferred

  • Strong computer and analytical skills, including programming skills, are considered a significant plus.

This position is subject to the University's background check policy.
