Description:

Are you excited about viral vaccines and therapeutics? Do you want to use and develop reverse genetics techniques to understand pathogenesis and make new discoveries which could advance our understanding of host-virus interactions? We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow to join our laboratory immediately to conduct research in the field of host-pathogen interactions and innate immune responses to viruses, including BSL2, BSL3, and BSL4 viral pathogens.

Our goal is to use reporter viruses in cellular systems and animal models to identify antivirals and design live-attenuated vaccines for the treatment and prevention of viral disease.

Your work environment will be the Disease Intervention & Prevention at the Texas Biomedical Research Institute. Texas Biomedical Research Institute is the only private, non-profit infectious disease research facility, providing high containment research capabilities (BSL3 & BSL4) alongside a National Primate Research Center.

The Role:

· Be able to design controlled experiments and troubleshoot

· Analyze molecular data associated with virus replication, innate immune response, host challenge, and pathogenesis

· Keep up-to-date with the latest literature; participate in group meetings to discuss findings

· Willingness to work in teams, within the Disease Intervention & Prevention and with national and international collaborators

· Communicate your research results to the larger communities through publications at international conferences and in journals

· Work with a great deal of independence in achieving research goals

Our Ideal Candidate:

· A PhD degree in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Virology or Cell Biology or related field
· Great eagerness to solve scientific problems

· Ideal candidates would have training in basic virology techniques, including cell culture, virus propagation, microscopy, cloning, and animal models of infection

· Strong organizational skills and publication record

· Excellent communication abilities in English; spoken and written

To be considered for the position you must send these documents to Dr. Martinez-Sobrido (lmartinez@txbiomed.org) in addition to applying here on our career page:

(1) Resume or CV

(2) A cover letter addressed to Dr. Martinez-Sobrido

If you are invited to interview, you should be prepared to share three professional references. The position is available for 12 months initially with the possibility of renewal for one or more years, depending on the performance.
