Description:
The Sustaining Engineer ensures the continued performance, reliability, and efficiency of released products through technical troubleshooting, design improvements, and engineering change implementation. This role focuses on resolving complex technical issues, conducting root cause analysis, and implementing enhancements while collaborating across multiple functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
Primary Responsibilities
Resolve technical issues on production-released products, including missing or improper functionality of the product
Lead complex debugging and failure analysis efforts, implementing necessary changes to address identified issues
Propose and implement improvements in testing methodologies, design specifications, reliability metrics, and performance benchmarks
Support design modifications to enhance product reliability, manufacturing processes, and cost-efficiency
Evaluate and qualify component changes based on availability, cost reduction, or performance improvement
Document product updates through engineering change order processes
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Repair, Customer Service, QA, Production, Engineering) to identify root causes
Technical Skills
Proficiency in Linux and Windows operating system environments
Ability to read, write, debug, and maintain production/qualification test software in multiple programming languages
Experience with script development and execution, including bash scripting
Capability to package, release, and load software images
Strong understanding of computer-system interfaces and networking protocols
Expertise in debugging complex system issues across all operational levels (BIOS, U-Boot, Operating Systems, Device-Drivers, Applications)
Familiarity with modern x86 computer architecture
Experience with development and instrumentation of computer systems interfaces
Hardware Expertise
Ability to troubleshoot printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) to component level
Experience with PCB design and electrical debugging
Proficiency using test equipment including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and RF power meters
Capability to interpret engineering drawings, manufacturer specifications, electrical schematics, and technical manuals
Experience with environmental and electromagnetic interference (EMI) qualification testing
Skill using general tools such as screwdrivers, soldering stations, and magnification aids
Education & Experience
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering or equivalent work experience
5-10 years of relevant on-the-job experience
Demonstrated knowledge in embedded and standard computer systems

Ability to multitask and manage multiple high-priority tasks under pressure
Excellent communication skills and technical documentation abilities
Capacity to work with minimal supervision while delivering highly visible results

Primarily onsite position (Monday-Thursday/Friday), with occasional travel to customer locations as needed
