Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) is one of the largest privately held architecture and engineering firms in the Southeast.

GMC has an opening for an Electrical Designer/Drafter in our Montgomery, AL office. The responsibilities for this position include gathering drawings and specifications, calculating material and equipment requirements and setting up production methods. Hands-on experience with computer-aided design (CAD) software. This is an outstanding opportunity to join a growing firm that will offer unlimited growth potential.

  Essential functions and responsibilities include:

  • Liaise with architects and engineers to gather product and structural requirements and designs
  • The successful candidate will enhance their engineering and design efforts working on a wide range of architectural and engineering projects for both public and private sector clients.
  • Assisting Electrical Engineers on designing power distribution, lighting, lighting controls, fire alarm, and telecommunication systems including security, television, audio/visual, intercom, PA, etc.
  • Responsibilities include developing REVIT models of architectural and engineering projects, developing AutoCAD plans of architectural and engineering projects.
  • Assisting with writing specifications for electrical equipment.
  • Completing design tasks within budget and on schedule while effectively communicating with project managers, Sr. Electrical Engineers, and support staff to complete work efficiently.
  • Be available and competent to visit job sites to assist in conducting surveys, assessments, and field inspections.
  • Arc Flash Study experience is a plus, not required

 Minimum Qualifications:

  • Self-starter with the ability to be a team player and work independently
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills are a must.
  • Associate's degree with ten years of experience OR Bachelor’s Degree from four-year college or university in engineering 2-3 years of experience
  • Comprehensive knowledge of REVIT, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Products.  
  • Strong interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills are a must.
  • Good math skills

Travel requirements:

  • Local job site travel as needed per project
