The Asphalt Screed Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the screed used to pave asphalt surfaces in the construction of highways and streets.

Duties and responsibilities

• Operate construction equipment in accordance with company procedures and safety regulations
• Check all fluid levels daily and perform daily walk-around inspection, to include greasing as necessary, when operating equipment
• Place asphalt at the correct grade and slope
• Adjust the screws to determine the correct depth of the asphalt being laid per job specifications
• Understand material thickness and type of material being laid
• Maintain effective communication with the paver operator
• Operate equipment in various situations, maintaining proper awareness of one’s surroundings
• Report the need for large repairs to appropriate parties
• All other duties as assigned, delegated, or necessary for operations

Qualifications

• Minimum two years of operating equipment (Asphalt Screed experience preferred)
• Experience on multiple pieces of construction equipment is preferred
• Possess a valid Driver’s License
• Ability to pass a pre-employment urine drug test and comply with drug and alcohol policies during employment

Working conditions

• Outdoor environment subject to changing conditions and temperatures
• Occasional exposures to fumes, dust, odors, heights, and loud noises.
• 40+ hours per week

Physical requirements

• Verbal, auditory, and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner
• Clarity of vision at varying distances to perform various work assignments
• Standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods of time
• Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of specialized tools and equipment
• Reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally
• Occasional bending, kneeling, or crouching
• Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling object(s) weighing up to 50 pounds
