Job ID: 2025-20796
Type: Full-Time
# of Openings: 1
Category: Research and Laboratory

Overview

The Gavis lab is seeking a highly motivated, organized Lab Manager for a full-time position within the Department of Molecular Biology.

Our lab studies post-transcriptional control of gene expression and its role in crucial decisions that cells must make within a developing embryo. We use the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, as a model for these studies, which incorporate genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, and imaging. We aim to foster a collaborative lab environment that supports people interested in contributing to exciting science, learning new skills/concepts, and advancing their professional goals. Strong organization, time-management, record keeping, and communication skills are essential. The work performed by the successful candidate will be foundational to all lab projects and will result in co-authorship on high impact publications.

The position is available starting May 2025 with a negotiable start date. A minimum 2-year commitment is required, although longer term is preferred contingent on satisfactory performance. This is a 2-year term position with possibility of extension. More information about the lab can be found at https://gavislab.scholar.princeton.edu/.

Responsibilities

  • Work efficiently and collaboratively to perform experiments, including molecular cloning, RNA and protein purification, quantification, and analysis, Drosophila genetic analysis, cell culture, tissue dissection and staining, and microscopy.
  • Lab management and maintenance: assist in organization and maintenance of laboratory reagents, equipment, supplies, and spaces; preparation of common reagents. Ensure laboratory safety is aligned with internal and external regulations.
  • In coordination with PI, assist new members on-boarding, train undergraduate and graduate students for basic laboratory techniques and equipment use. Supervise undergraduate student researchers.
