Laboratory Research Technician
The Kaplan Lab in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh seeks an organized, motivated Research Specialist with biochemical, cell biological, and molecular biological expertise for studies of gene expression mechanisms and the function of RNA Polymerase II. Duties include some lab management roles (ordering supplies, compliance, lab organization, training in techniques) but will primarily be research related involving understanding mechanisms of gene expression in model systems and/or mammalian cell culture. Experience with simple protein purification, molecular cloning, and standard protein and DNA work is required (PCR, qPCR, Western blotting, protein expression and purification, column chromatography, etc.). Excellent organization skills are required. Good communication skills are required. Experience with yeast or bacterial model systems is a plus. Experience with mammalian cell culture or genomics analysis would be highly valued.
Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.
