Assistant Professor – Department of Pathology

RANK/TITLE:

Assistant Professor of Pathology (appointment stream) (Assistant 1-5 years’ experience)

DEPARTMENT/DIVISION:

The Division of Anatomic Pathology of UPMC Shadyside Hospital, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), and University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine (UPSOM) is seeking an academic surgical pathologist (Appointment Stream) with a specialty interest in Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology. This is a subspecialty sign-out practice, and the successful candidate would join our division of the Bone and Soft Tissue Center of Excellence (COE). This COE processes over 1,000 sarcomas per year and serves as a local and regional consultation reference laboratory for Western Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio, and West Virginia. It also offers a one-year ACGME-accredited Bone and Soft Tissue Fellowship program. In addition to teaching and sign-out responsibilities, the candidate would have ample opportunities for translational projects utilizing the state-of-the-art resources of our molecular anatomic pathology, FISH, and other laboratories. Participation in other subspecialty sign-outs may be possible based on the candidate’s interest.

JOB DUTIES:

The candidate should be Board Certified in Anatomic Pathology with formal subspecialty training in Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology and must be eligible for medical licensure in Pennsylvania. A record of and commitment to scholarly activities and publications are essential. The department will provide startup resources and protected time to ensure a successful academic career.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• must have an M.D. and Board Board-certified in Anatomic Pathology with formal subspecialty training in Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology.

• Eligibility for medical licensure in Pennsylvania is required.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

• Academic rank and salary are commensurate with prior academic achievements and experience.

• Full-time faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh as well as a participant in the UPMC/UPP faculty practice plan.
