Research Specialist



The Department of Biological Sciences in the Dietrich School of Arts & Sciences and College of General Studies at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Research Specialist.

The Research Specialist will perform experiments in a microbiology laboratory that are aimed at understanding the diversity and utility of Actinobacteriophages. Primary research responsibilities will include: isolation, characterization, and engineering of bacteriophages to various Actinobacteria including Mycobacteria, Gordonia, Arthrobacter, Microbacterium and Rhodococcus. Responsible for coordinating routine operations of lab.


Job Summary

Performs a variety of laboratory experiments and procedures. Prepares specimens. Oversees supply management. Operates and properly maintains equipment.


Essential Functions

Aseptic technique and microbiology skills; math and analytical skills; bioinformatic analysis skills; Requires microbiological techniques and skills in pipetting liquid solutions.


Physical Effort

Position will require standing 75% of the day.
