RANK/TITLE: Assistant Professor (1-5 years of experience) (Tenure stream)


DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: The University of Pittsburgh, Department of Pathology, Division of Experimental Pathology

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
The successful candidate will lead a laboratory at the intersection of genome editing and applied physiology, with the overarching goal of impacting human health, where new approaches can be developed to optimize and engineer CRISPR genome editing technologies in the Department of Pathology. The responsibilities will include constructing new pipelines for pre-clinical and clinical projects that lead to new NIH grant applications and expand collaborations not only within the Department of Pathology, but also the whole University of Pittsburgh and beyond. The candidate is expected to initiate independent and collaborative research efforts within the Department of Pathology and across other departments at the University of Pittsburgh that lead to NIH award funding. In addition, the candidate is expected to teach molecular biology and personalized medicine-related courses in the graduate school at the University of Pittsburgh and will contribute to the mentorship of students and trainees. She/he will participate in departmental and university service activities, including faculty meetings, committees, and initiatives that promote the department’s academic and research goals.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Degree Required: Ph.D. in Physiology or Molecular Biology, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in CRISPR genome editing technologies, with expertise in human genome analysis, particularly in metabolic and/or neurodegenerative diseases. NIH grant writing experience is appreciated.

  • Technical Expertise:
    • Experience with Affymetrix SNP array, gene expression array, Illumina transcriptome sequencing, whole genome sequencing, and epigenome analyses is essential.
    • At least 3 years of post-doctoral experience in molecular biology or pathophysiological sciences is required.
    • Proficiency in genome data analysis tools and the development of bioinformatics pipelines and optimization of CRISPR genome editing technologies.
  • Leadership & Management: Supervisory experience overseeing up to 15 non-student employees and post-doctoral fellows is expected.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Strong communication skills and a demonstrated ability to collaborate across departments and with various stakeholders.
  • Research: Proven track record of research with a strong publication record.
