The Division of Student Life & Success at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg is responsible for diverse functions that impact our students' lives on a daily basis - Auxiliary Services including dining, vending, and laundry; Career Services: Counseling Services; Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion, Health Services, Housing & Residence Life, Student Conduct, Student Involvement & Leadership, and Title IX. Our campus is comprised of approximately 1,300 students including residents and commuters.


Job Summary

Manages a program and improves student programs, services, and retention. Performs budgetary and grant functions. Manages daily office operations and operations for select services. Markets programs and services, presents workshops, and develops policies and procedures. Facilitates new student programming.


Essential Functions

The Director of Student Activities and the First-Year Experience holds an important role in the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg Orientation department which is a part of the Student Life & Success office. The Director of Student Activities and the First-Year Experience is responsible for the following:

  • the overall administration, planning, and implementation of campus student activities;
  • advising the Student Activities Board (SAB) in developing social, cultural, and educational programs;
  • directing and administering all first-year and transfer student orientation processes which include summer orientation, Welcome Week, online orientation, and management of Cornerstone/Seminar first-year courses;
  • serving as the instructor for one or more of the Cornerstone/Seminar classes;
  • recruiting, selecting, training, and supervising student leaders which include Peer Leaders and Student Activity Board (SAB) officers, as well as a graduate assistant;
  • managing the Student Activities Board (SAB) budget and the Orientation departmental budget, including contract negotiation.

The Director will be required to supervise evening and weekend activities which require nontraditional work hours.

The Director of Student Activities and the First-Year Experience will report directly to the Assistant Dean of Students.

Master’s degree preferred in higher education or related field. Experience in higher education-related program planning and advising student groups is required. Experience with organizing and managing multiple projects simultaneously, budget management, and working with faculty, staff, and students preferred.


Physical Effort

The position will require nontraditional work hours due to needs of students and activities related to enhancing student life and experiences. The position is generally sedentary, but will require walking and/or standing to attend on-campus events and meetings. Some lifting under 25 lbs. may be necessary.
