Position Summary

Ava is seeking to hire a full-time Power Resources Settlements Analyst, reporting to the Power Resources Contracts Manager. The Power Resources Settlements Analyst plays a critical role in validating power purchase transactions, tracking energy settlements, and ensuring contract compliance within Ava's Power Resources team. This role supports invoice validation, monitoring CAISO market settlements, and the integrity of financial and operational data across Ava's renewable and storage project portfolio.

The selected candidate will gain exposure to the full lifecycle of energy settlement—from generated power and project invoice review for contractual compliance to CAISO market performance review and analysis. This is a hands-on opportunity to learn how clean energy projects are compensated, how settlement data is captured and tracked, and how contractual terms govern financial outcomes. The Settlements Analyst will work cross-functionally with power procurement teams and finance teams to ensure accuracy, transparency, and consistency in all aspects of energy-related settlements.

Position Details
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Invoice Validation (25%)

  • Validate project invoices by verifying quantities, rates, and total amounts billed.
  • Cross-check billed amounts with contract terms, delivery schedules, and performance data.
  • Flag and resolve discrepancies through communication with internal teams and external project developers.
  • Ensure proper documentation and tracking of all validated invoices for audit and compliance reporting.

2. Settlements Tracking and Data Integrity (25%)

  • Enter settlement and invoice data into internal deal capture systems and other reporting tools.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, ensuring consistency across platforms.
  • Monitor data flows and integrity in support of broader compliance and reporting objectives.
  • Assist in creating reports and visualizations of settlement trends or issues.

3. CAISO Settlement Analysis (25%)

  • Learn and apply CAISO market settlement processes and methodologies for review and analysis of projects as market participants.
  • Review CAISO settlement statements and validate key charge codes against expected project activity.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to reconcile discrepancies, monitor disputes and improve CAISO market data tracking.
  • Support internal understanding of how market settlements align with project operations and financial forecasts.

4. Contract Review, Compliance, and Knowledge Building (25%)

  • Review and interpret settlement-related terms in power purchase agreements and other contracts.
  • Assist in energy prepay transaction tracking and validation.
  • Participate in internal training and knowledge-sharing sessions to build a strong foundation in energy contracts and finance.
  • Ensure compliance with contract settlement provisions and support documentation for reporting and auditing.

5. Other duties as required

Minimum Requirements:
  • 2+ years' relevant experience combined with a Bachelor's degree in business, energy, accounting, environmental policy, engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience working in energy markets, finance, settlements, or accounting; renewable energy experience is a plus.
  • Experience with CAISO systems or invoicing/settlement tools is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and familiarity with data tools or contract management systems (e.g., Ironclad, Salesforce, SharePoint).
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to synthesize and communicate complex information.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate across teams.
  • Self-directed, showing attention to detail and organizational skills in a highly fluid and rapidly changing environment.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
Compensation and Benefits
The annual salary for this position is $106,094, with a Total Compensation of up to $112,459 annually based on performance.

Location and Working Conditions
This position will be based in Ava headquarters in Oakland, near BART. Ava's team has a hybrid approach inclusive of in-office and remote work. This role is expected to go into the office Tuesdays, Thursdays and the first Wednesday of the month. We are not providing sponsorships currently.
