Executive Director of Strategic Operations



The Executive Director of Strategic Operations serves as a strategic advisor and key business partner to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Research (SVCR) and assists in managing internal and external relations and objectives of this senior office, including the SVCR’s oversight of Pitt Research: the Offices of Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Research Computing, Research Protections, and Sponsored Programs. The SVCR is a key member of the Chancellor’s senior leadership team, and is charged with providing strategic vision, leadership, and partnership expertise that helps Pitt faculty, staff, and students advance their research, scholarship, and innovation.

The Executive Director of Strategic Operations will participate in strategic planning and goal setting efforts, oversee strategic objectives and work with unit leadership to ensure successful implementation, lead the staff team within the OSVCR, assess and make recommendations on organization structure and operational efficiency, assist senior leaders in decision making and problem solving, and lead projects as appropriate.

The successful candidate will have experience in strategic planning, supervising teams, and excellent critical thinking, communication, and project management skills. Preferred requirements include a master’s degree, in a relevant field, and at least 15 years of experience, with 7-10 years in a senior level administrative position.

Job Summary

Serves as an operational and strategic aid for senior management and for implementation of overarching organizational initiatives and objectives. Handles the oversight of large and complex projects and scenarios that serve as major change fulcrums. Acts as a visible top-level leader and represents the Vice Chancellor or other executive leadership.

Physical Effort

The position is mostly sedentary but may require travel on campus to attend meetings or events.
