PDS Optical is looking for an experienced IT System Engineer to complete our team at our Fort Lauderdale, FL Optical Lab. 

As an IT Systems Engineer, you will assist with the general business operations of the IT Department and provide assistance to the IT Operations Director as needed. 

This is a full-time, on-site position. Pay will be discussed during the interview and determined based off relevant experience. 

Optical experience is not required. The ideal candidate must have excellent technical and computer skills including experience or knowledge of various networking concepts. Must have the ability to work independently, prioritize, multitask, problem solve and follow up. Must be organized and able to handle confidential information. 


Essential Functions

 • Maintain ongoing technical knowledge (and certification as directed) in the areas of assigned responsibility.  The general categories that may be assigned by the IT Operations Director are: 

  • Server Infrastructure
  • Storage / Virtualization 
  • Microsoft Operating Systems 
  • Wide Area Networking
  • Voice Systems 
  • Applications
  • Disaster Recovery / Business Continuity
  • Security and/or Compliance 

• Must be able to submit, monitor, communicate and complete escalated work tickets and assigned projects, and report progress weekly.

• Work directly with IT companies and vendors such as Matrix, Microsoft, Cisco, VMWare, Sophos, XMedius, CC Systems, Oasis, Compulink, etc. on issues that may arise.

• Maintain extensive knowledge of current technologies available in the IT world and apply related technology to the company’s needs.

• Assist in IT policy or procedure development, implementation and continued support

• Must be willing to respond to emergency situations after hours as needed

• Assist in development of new solutions to increase the overall performance of the company’s goals

• Provide assistance and training to other internal resources as necessary.

• Serve as backup to the IT Technician when necessary. 


Environment

This position is located in a combination office/lab setting. This position requires working, advising and training a diverse group of people.
