Project Lead Technician



The Integrated Security Department is seeking a Project Lead Technician. As a division of Public Safety and Emergency Management, Integrated Security provides state of the art security to keep and maintain a safe experience for all. The Project Lead Technician is responsible for assisting the Operations Manager with daily project management as well as installing and maintaining security systems, including access control and cctv across all University of Pittsburgh campuses. This position will document device and security system issues and programs and troubleshoots infrastructure. This position serves as a liaison to all University Departments. This position is responsible for other duties and special projects as assigned.


Job Summary

Acts as Project Lead Technician and assists with daily project management, provides technical expertise on projects, collaborates to trouble shoot technical issues, monitors and inspects installations, repairs and overall quality of work. Installs, maintains, and repairs security equipment and systems across all University campuses while employing preventative maintenance procedures for security equipment. Documents device issues and recommends next steps, determines security system issues, and programs and troubleshoots security infrastructure. Serves as liaison with external contractors, maintains inventory, and implements cost-effective repairs.


Essential Functions
  • Assist Operations Manager with daily project management; including coordinating work assignments and adherence to project deadlines.
  • Attends meetings, makes site visits and communicates with the implementation team. Serves as a liaison to outside contractors.
  • Acts as lead technician on all projects and provides technical expertise on projects.
  • Install and maintain access control systems including card readers, door strikes, WiFi and POE locksets. Interface access control system with door entry and automated door opening systems. Troubleshoot access control hardware failures and complete repairs.
  • Have the ability to analyze complicated technical problems, evaluate solutions and implement resolutions in a zero-tolerance environment.
  • Ability to read layouts of security systems.
  • Assist with Emergency Operations Center as needed.
  • Exceptional organization and communication skills are required. Must be able to manage multiple projects and assignments simultaneously.
  • The position is required to be a part of the 24 hour on call rotation schedule
  • Maintain warehouse inventory

Physical Effort

Travel across the Oakland campus throughout the day; travel to branch campuses may also be required. Position may require standing or moving for several hours at a time. Requires extensive standing, moving, ascend/descend, bending, lifting or carrying. May be required to lift heavy objects that may exceed 100 pounds with or without assistance. Working in small spaces may be required.
