Position Title: Mgr, Electric Operations
Location: Council Bluffs, IA, United States
Description:
The manager electric operations manages the supervision of electric distribution field personnel and the construction, operation and maintenance of the distribution system including substations over a geographic area. Focus is on safe and effective utilization of the workforce, enhancing the customer service experience, effective management of all available resources to meet the needs and demands of the operational area, investigation and implementation of cost-saving and value-enhancing opportunities, development of supervisory staff and investigating procedures, implementing changes and leading teams to achieve consistent practices.

Responsibilities:
Manage and coordinate electric operations related functions of construction, operation and maintenance and customer service activities; includes managing multi-functional areas after hours. (35%)
Manage, support and lead subordinate supervision and personnel in executing MidAmerican Energy Company's mission and achieving functional and corporate goals. Primary responsibility for optimization of resources, workforce safety, customer satisfaction, reliability and regulatory and environmental compliance. (30%)
Research, implement and execute cost-saving and value-enhancing initiatives. Drive effective utilization of the flexibility opportunities in the bargaining unit contracts. Lead staff in the implementation of field service work practices and procedures that will be utilized throughout the delivery services unit and will serve as the foundation for future expansion of the corporation. (15%)
Support, mentor and encourage the development of leadership skills of direct reports, including the maintenance of a succession plan for supervisory positions within the function. Oversee the training and development of indirect reports. (10%)
Provide leadership and technical assistance to technical and strategic committees to better our operations, company and industry. (10%)
Perform administrative activities necessary for the effective management of the department, including employee safety, selection and development of employees, salary administration, budget administration, employee counseling and motivation, organization goals and objectives and planning, organizing, integrating, measuring and reporting the work performed within the department. (0%-5%)
Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. (0%-5%)
Demonstration of knowledge and understanding of human performance improvement techniques. Evaluate present practices and implement processes, concepts, training and tools to prevent, detect and correct human errors that may adversely impact the safe, reliable operation of the electric transmission and distribution system.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in business or engineering or equivalent related work experience (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)
Eight years of related experience, including three years supervisory/management responsibilities.
Technical expertise related to the construction, operation and maintenance of electrical distribution systems and customer service functions.
Advanced leadership skills to lead the supervisory team and individuals toward accomplishment of goals. Enhanced team-building skills to develop and focus the supervisory team.
Highly developed oral and written communication and presentation skills to listen effectively, communicate information and team direction accurately and understandably and to actively seek feedback and input.
Well-developed critical thinking, analytical, decision-making and project management skills to optimize resources and achieve consistent, high quality results.
Strong influencing skills to negotiate and persuade; to sell and lead opinion and to effectively drive and manage change.
Effective interpersonal skills and leadership abilities.
Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple issues and projects concurrently.
