Laboratory Research Tech II
Performs a variety of laboratory experiments and procedures. Prepares specimens. Oversees supply management. Operates and properly maintains equipment.
The University of Pittsburgh, Department of Neurological Surgery at Children's Hospital, is currently seeking a Laboratory Research Technician II. The position will handle and perform behavioral testing on laboratory rodents, keep schedule and data sheets, maintain behavioral lab, general lab bench work such as westerns etc. Additionally, the candidate will learn histological techniques such as paraffin embedding, tissue sectioning, and staining. The candidate will be trained to perform his/her duties as required and progress will be closely monitored. The candidate will be responsible for maintaining conformity and order in the laboratory and must be able to work weekends. Work week will include Saturdays and Sundays. BEHAVIORAL ASSESSMENTS: Candidate will be responsible for rodent behavioral assessments (motor and cognitive). The candidate will work with a team to provide weekend testing of these behavioral tasks. Candidate must be able to conduct intraperitoneal injections in rodents. HISTOLOGY: The candidate will perform histological techniques such as perfusion, paraffin embedding, tissue sectioning, and staining. The investigator will train the candidate to perform his/her duties as required and will closely monitor the progress. DATA ANALYSIS: Candidate must be capable to accurately enter data into PC spreadsheets and perform statistical analysis of the results.
Minimum education to be considered for this position is a bachelor's degree in a related field.
