Civil Design, Inc. (CDI) is a multi-disciplined civil engineering firm offering civil site, structural, land surveying, and GIS services. Since its founding in 1996, our team has grown to over 150 team members with six locations. We operate in three states serving our six service lines - Infrastructure + Analytics, Site, Structures, Survey, Transportation, and Water Resources. We have office locations in Missouri – St. Louis and Jefferson City, Illinois – Collinsville and Effingham and Kentucky – Louisville and Prestonsburg.


We are looking for an Infrastructure Field Team Member to support our CDI mission in Building Stronger Communities. By contributing to projects and engaging with the team, you will support our mission and developing a better tomorrow.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adherence to current and future safety policies, procedures, and requirements of CDI and their clients.
  • Data management including creation, reconciliation, documentation, and quality control as directed.
  • Excellent personal conduct and verbal communication with team members, customers/residents, and the general public (if required).
  • Perform general labor associated with work zone and roadway traffic control guidelines and policies.
  • Perform general maintenance and inventory of equipment.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed and professional field notes of data collection sites and work performed.
  • Maintain effective, daily communication and progress updates with Project Manager or Lead.
  • Maintain safe working conditions and practices at project sites, individually and with team members.
  • Responsible and safe use of assigned company equipment, tools, materials, supplies, and vehicle.
  • Utilize knowledge to trouble shoot issues on-site in the field.
  • Other duties and responsibilities, as assigned by Project Manager or Lead.
  • Travel to perform work may be required on occasion depending on project location(s).
Requirements:

Current Utility Project(s) Essential Job Functions:

· Perform general labor to safely install, replace, and maintain utility (water) meters and/or associated reading devices at residential or commercial sites (both inside and outside of building structures).

· Ensure transmittal of utility meter reading device signals to the appropriate data collection network.

· Perform general labor to safely locate, inventory, and inspect utility (water, sewer, electric, etc.) assets using various types of data collection equipment, such as mobile GIS and/or GPS units.

· Accurately read, collect, and associate utility asset characteristics, consumption, conditions, pictures, or other pertinent information as required using data collection forms, applications, and equipment.

· Receive, return, and maintain daily inventory of utility assets, tools, equipment, materials, and supplies to/from office location(s).


Current Infrastructure Project(s) Essential Job Functions:

· Perform general labor to safely install, maintain, and retrieve data collection (traffic) equipment at specified sites using field judgment to determine optimal equipment location for accurate data readings.

· Assist with data downloads, processing, uploads, and backups from data collection equipment to directed project data storage servers, folders, or other locations.

· Perform general labor to safely locate, inventory, and inspect infrastructure (roadway, recreation, etc.) assets using various types of data collection equipment, such as mobile GIS and/or GPS units.

· Accurately read, collect, and associate infrastructure asset types, characteristics, conditions, pictures, or other pertinent information as required using data collection forms, applications, and equipment.

· Receive, return, and maintain daily inventory of infrastructure data collection equipment, tools, materials, and supplies to/from office location(s).


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Interest and ability to be trained in general data collection to be a field team member.

· Basic computer skills and proficiency with technology.

· Demonstrate a willingness to have a strong understanding of both the project and data being collected.

· Strong verbal and written communication skills.

· Ability to work effectively in a team environment and possess strong interpersonal skills.

· Must be physically able to work in a variety of outdoor field locations, under all weather conditions.

· Commitment to a safe working environment following safety policies, guidelines, and procedures.

· Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve.

· Strong organizational and time management skills.

· Ability to find locations/addresses by reading a map, handheld device, and/or laptop.

· Ability to use hand and power tools.

· Ability to perform physical duties such as lifting, pushing, pulling up to 40 lbs. of force unassisted.


Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED is required.
  • Certificate or Associate's Degree in Engineering Science, GIS or Construction preferred.
  • Any experience with Microsoft Excel and/or GIS Data Collection is a plus.
  • Prior experience working in a field crew environment is a plus.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have a good driving record.
  • Must successfully pass a Background Check (Updated periodically at CDI's discretion).
  • Must successfully pass a Drug Test (Updated periodically at CDI's discretion).
  • Possible 90-day probation period based on experience

This role can be based out of St. Louis, MO location. The travel expected is up to 15%.

Working Conditions: CDI conducts on-the-job training for each specific project. Project Manager or Lead will assign field team member(s) weekly tasks, and/or activities to be completed based on project requirements. Work is generally performed outside at various job sites throughout the project region. Driving and/or riding in a vehicle for most of each workday is expected. Working in and around areas of vehicular traffic is required. May be exposed to all kinds of weather conditions including extreme temperatures, rain, snow, high winds, humidity and dusty conditions. Physical activity is required including walking, standing, carrying equipment up to 30lbs, stooping, kneeling, and bending. May be exposed to exhaust fumes, dust particles, insects, wildlife, plants, poison ivy, and other environmental elements. Additionally, may be exposed to unknown hazards at resident sites such as dogs. Daily project start/stop times may vary based on project site locations, in addition to flexible work week schedules.
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $45,000-$60,000/year. Compensation will vary based upon relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors.
