Alfred State is excited to announce vacancies for two Assistant Directors (AD) for Residential Life for the 2025-26 academic year. This 12-month live-in position is not eligible for permanent appointment. The Assistant Directors will manage the day-to-day operations of various programs and services within the Alfred State Residential Community, fostering a positive environment that supports student success and aligns with the College's mission. They will maintain high visibility and availability by attending community events, touring facilities, and interacting with staff and residents. The role includes direct supervision of student and professional staff, conducting weekly supervision meetings, and leading staff and area meetings. Additionally, the Assistant Directors will oversee residential facilities, ensure policy compliance, and engage with residents to facilitate community standards and student engagement.
The Assistant Directors will manage and develop training, selection, and recognition programs for the Residential Services area, serve as campus hearing officers, and provide formal and informal feedback regarding job performance for staff. They will develop an engaging and success-oriented living environment to foster positive community development and belonging, and provide personal, social, academic, and occupational support and referrals for residents. Participation in departmental and divisional professional development activities is also expected. As members of the department leadership team, the Assistant Directors will complete duties and administrative tasks to meet departmental and college strategic goals.
Additional duties include splitting responsibilities between First Year Residential Experience staff support and special periods oversight, and Upper Classman Residential Experience, including oversight for training and selection for the department. They will assist in the development and delivery of training for professional and student staff, including emergency response, conflict resolution, programming, and community facilitation. The Assistant Directors will lead the development, delivery, and management of the residential curriculum, including living learning communities, residential co-curricular event planning and education, in-service training, and student success efforts.
The Assistant Directors for Residential Life report directly to the Senior Director of Cultural and Student Life and provide supervision for residential facilities, students, and professional staff in their area. They will also serve as part of an after-hours on-duty rotation for the department. Successful candidates must demonstrate initiative, effective communication skills, and a strong commitment to student learning. They should be able to work collaboratively while making independent determinations.
The starting salary for this position is $57,151 and is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
