Experience and knowledge of the Equine Industry is preferred.

Ability to lift and carry boxes and booth materials, as well as work outside in adverse conditions such as heat.
Shift
Approximately 15-17 hours during the summer/semester. May include some evening and weekend events, if schedule allows.
Job Summary
UK Ag Equine Programs is looking for a student intern!

Summary:
The UK Equine Communication and Student Relations internship offers an array of opportunities to be involved in different areas within UK Ag Equine Programs and broaden skillsets in communications, leadership and office and event management. As an intern, you will have the ability to assist with events and other initiatives to help build community within the Equine Science and Management degree program, contribute to publications and communications efforts as well as identify and head up a special project relating to an area of interest.

Responsibilities:
  • Help generate, compile, edit, manage and layout content for reoccurring newsletters, including but not limited to, the Wildcat Canter, Graduate Gallop, Tuesday Tidbits and Equine Science Review, in coordination with Communications Director. Special emphasis on information gathering from clubs and teams and other equine student activities
  • Write and help distribute press releases
  • Write profile pieces about program and people
  • Generate and post to social media accounts
  • Write stories, cover equine events and take photographs and video
  • Help manage social media presence for UK Ag Equine Programs
  • Help generate content for other projects, including, but not limited to, advertising, other marketing communications (flyers, brochures, etc.) and feature stories
  • Serve as a representative for UK Ag Equine Programs at equine and agriculture-related events, talking to potential students, alumni and donors
  • Help manage and distribute information via email list serves
  • Help maintain databases including, but not limited to, internship and job opportunities, contacts, news clips, marketing communications imprints, student, alumni
  • Help organize and take inventory of promotional materials
  • Help follow news coverage and trending topics for UK Ag Equine Programs via Google Alerts
  • Help maintain coverage of UK Ag Equine Programs office phones
  • Teaching assistance, including, but not limited to, copying materials and helping create educational resources
  • Help create online surveys and assist with data entry
  • Help create advising and recruitment resources for the undergraduate program
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Willingness to learn new software programs, editing and writing styles
  • Be able and willing to work some nights and weekends, as requested
