This is a temporary summer internship role, 8 - 12 weeks long, depending on the needs of the business, and other factors. During the internship, including client site visits and travel, the intern will partner with experienced Systems Engineers or Field Service Technicians.  The internship will consist of modifying and developing the control software, wiring schematics and documentation for the company’s range of standard and bespoke, high-speed packaging machinery; whilst also providing support to the service department, sometimes remotely and on sites.



Responsibilities

  • Assist in amending circuit diagrams and programming PLC’s, HMI’s, servo motion control, safety controllers for machine modifications
  • Participate in amending circuit diagrams and programming PLC’s, HMI’s, servo motion control, safety controllers for machine modifications
  • Visit customer sites assisting the service department with complex installations and breakdowns
  • Provide timely, accurate, and detailed visit reports
  • Perform software modifications at customer site to PLCs, HMIs, Servo motion control, safety logic, along with small amounts of mechanical assembly and wiring
  • Assist our service department with requests via our ticketing system

Internship Requirements and Qualifications

  • Has or is pursuing bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field preferred, high level of experience will be considered
  • Must be able to pass prescreening requirements
  • Willing to travel in the continental US and be flexible traveling on short notice or over a weekend
  • Basic understanding of PLC ladder logic
  • Ability to think logically and solve problems
  • Excellent communication skills, positive attitude and responsible
  • Ability to manage time and meet deadlines
  • Strong IT and basic computer networking skills
  • Familiarity with servo motors / motion control / robotics preferred
  • Knowledge of C# or similar programming language preferred
  • Hands on mechanical experience is an advantage

Physical Requirements  

  • Work in climate-controlled, and non-climate-controlled factories and locations
  • Stand continuously for long periods of time, and work behind a desk
  • Wearing of safety clothing and equipment is required
  • Able to kneel, bend, crouch and climb ladders to access various parts of a machine
  • Physically able to stand / walk lift at least 75 lbs

Work Environment

  • Working around machinery and forklifts
  • Work in cold (>32°F) and hot (<100°F) environments for extended periods of time
  • Will work in warehouses, farms, and various locations with temperatures varying in each location
