About the Position

Serves as the primary legal advisor to the company's executive leadership team, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, mitigating legal risks, and handling all legal matters related to construction projects and operations. This role will be responsible for providing proactive strategic advice, legal education and training to all Company team members and leading in the areas of contract negotiation, dispute resolution, claims management and risk management, mitigating risk and ensuring ethical behaviors and practices across the Company, under the guidance of all applicable laws and regulations, the mission, vision, values, and goals of the Company, and in alignment with all Company policies, procedures, key objectives and regulations.

Our Ideal Candidate


  • Extensive experience in construction law and regulatory compliance, including contract negotiation, risk management, labor law, insurance claims, and dispute resolution.
  • Proven ability to advise executive leadership on strategic business decisions, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and corporate governance matters in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • Strong understanding of multi-jurisdictional employment law and safety regulations, particularly relevant to union operations.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with a track record of managing legal teams, coordinating with outside counsel, and building cross-functional partnerships to proactively address legal risks.


Day in the Life

  • Provide legal counsel on all construction-related matters, including project development, contracts, labor laws, environmental regulations, and procurement.
  • Develop and implement company-wide proactive legal strategies to support business goals while minimizing legal risks in contracts.
  • Keep management informed of changing legal and regulatory trends in the construction industry.
  • Review, draft, and negotiate contracts with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and other business partners.
  • Ensure that contracts are aligned with company objectives, legal requirements, and industry standards.
  • Provide legal support in managing the company's contract portfolio, ensuring compliance and proper documentation.
  • Identify and mitigate legal and regulatory risks associated with construction projects, including financial, safety, environmental, labor, and insurance requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to relevant local, state, and federal laws and regulations (e.g., OSHA, ADA, environmental laws).
  • Develop and implement internal policies and subsequent training to ensure compliance with legal obligations.
  • Represent the company in legal disputes, including resolving claims, arbitrations, and litigation.
  • Manage external litigation counsel when necessary and work to resolve disputes in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Negotiate settlements and oversee the implementation of settlement agreements.
  • Act as the company's legal counsel, while also leading the risk management and contracts teams, and ensuring efficient legal support across departments.
  • Advise the board of directors and senior leadership on corporate governance issues and legal risk factors impacting the business.
  • Draft and review corporate documents, including bylaws, resolutions, and other regulatory filings.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law.
  • 15 years of experience in construction law or a related field, with a focus on contract negotiation, risk management, and dispute resolution.
  • Experience in labor relations and employment law in the construction industry.
  • Experience working in a large-scale construction company or construction management firm.
  • In-depth knowledge, experience and skills working with business law, contracting principles and practices, and both general and industry-specific regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Expertise with construction disputes and claims, including arbitration and litigation.
  • Strong knowledge of construction industry regulations, including OSHA, labor laws, environmental laws, and insurance requirements.
  • Strong business acumen and experience collaborating with senior leaders in a high growth, process-oriented business setting.
  • Superior listening, presentation, conflict management and persuasion skills, and the ability to influence employees at all levels, including senior management.
  • Exceptional negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage complex legal issues and provide clear, actionable advice.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose problems with strategic thinking skills and detail orientation, and to drive timely and appropriate solutions across all business lines with self-initiative and sensitivity.
