EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: 

Current Indiana license as a Registered Nurse required. BSN required. Minimum of 3 years of critical care related nursing experience required. Experience in education role and/or training preferred. Current certification in CPR or Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers required within 3 months of hire. ACLS certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire/orientation.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Functions as a critical care expert/resource in clinical specialties (CCU/PCU, Emergency, and Surgery), demonstrating competency in clinical judgement, selected technical skills and appropriate knowledge base both house-wide and unit specific.

  • Plans, develops, conducts and evaluates orientation and professional development through evidenced-based educational offerings, outcome measurements, competency development and on-line educational resources (i.e. Elsevier Clinical Skills and Clinical Key for Nursing; Myers Nursing; etc.). These offerings include General Nursing Orientation, Critical Care Nursing Orientation, and Agency Nurse Orientation.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates clinical education programs and in-services for staff education and professional development such as annual competency evaluations, Basic ECG classes, Moderate Sedation, and department specific trainings, etc.
  • Assists in direct patient care during training, consultation and demonstration of clinical skills.

Assists department and clinical department directors in establishing educational and staff development priorities based on assessed needs both house-wide and at the unit level.

Ensures that educational records for staff (employed and agency nurse) meet regulatory compliance and job requirements.

Serves as coordinator of the Nursing Education Committee. Participates in division, department and hospital committees to facilitate improvement of patient care and staff development.

Maintains collaborative approach with members of the education and clinical education staff to meet the learning needs of various customers.           

Acts as a clinical role model by demonstrating effective leadership, communication, teamwork, interpersonal skills and integrity.

Utilizes available resources to problem solve effectively.

Works independently to achieve house-wide and unit-specific goals.

Demonstrates an awareness of self-responsibility and accountability for improving own level of practice.

Clearly communicates and demonstrates the mission, vision, and values of JMH initiatives through responsibility and accountability. 

Performs additional duties not addressed here as assigned by the Director of Performance Excellence.

Conducts all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and hospital policies and procedures including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.
