EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: 

Current Indiana Registered Nurse license required. At least 5 years of nursing experience in hematology/oncology required. Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification required. BLS or CPR for the Healthcare Provider certification required. BSN required.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists physicians/providers in the department, enters data into system, monitors patients during treatment, and provides for patient safety. Prepares reports and distributes as appropriate. Starts IV’s and administers medications at the direction of the oncology physician/provider. Maintains records, and distributes reports as appropriate, provides patient and family education. Enters orders and charges as needed. Assists with completion of procedure and medication prior authorizations.  Tracks prior authorizations to ensure completion and scanning into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).

Coordinates care in collaboration with other health team members including but not limited to administering inpatient and outpatient chemotherapy, evaluation and management of patient progress, and providing continuum of oncology care through the healthcare system.

Provides leadership and direction of the department in collaboration with the Director. Assists in achieving budget projections for both operating expenses and FTE's. Assists Director in performance improvement activities. Ensures consistent application of all departmental and JMH policies.

Assists in patient scheduling and care operations of hematology/oncology clinic.  Provides input into operations and operational improvement of electronic documentation systems.

Maintains personnel requirements for department staff including job descriptions, performance appraisals, disciplinary action, continuing education, and proficiency testing for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.  Provides for employee selection, orientation, training, supervision, and review.  Responsible for providing appropriate staffing to perform departmental functions to meet expectations of departmental customers and hematology/oncology standards.

Participates in the promotion of the department through presentation of programs to staff and outside groups.

Orders supplies as needed. Maintains and/or troubleshoots equipment and requests service as needed.

Enters and monitors patient information and facilitates accuracy of data collection for hematology/oncology sources.  Works with accrediting or research agencies and cancer philanthropies/societies.

Keeps abreast of new treatments and technology by attending seminars, reading journals, etc.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
75 hours per bi-weekly pay period
