Reporting to the Facilities Operations Manager, the Facilities Operations Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of Facilities Operations on the third shift. The Operations Supervisor, Facilities Management is responsible for the management of assigned staff, and works with other members of Facilities in regards to the upkeep and maintenance of the campus at all times.

This is a part-time position, the hours will be Saturday, Sunday, Monday 7:00am-3:30pm.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Make daily rounds to assess quality, efficiency, and productivity of custodians and maintenance specialists staff; report building deficiencies.
  • Provide daily, weekly, or monthly activity reports as directed, including the project checklist sheet and building inspections reports.
  • Manage the payroll timekeeping system for assigned staff. Check for accuracy, approve time off requests, and sign off at the end of each pay period.
  • Review work orders for completion/accuracy and ensure they are turned in on time for input into the work order system.
  • Evaluate maintenance situations as they arise and make decisions to assign or call in staff. Coordinate and interface with Public Safety staff as needed to resolve campus problems.
  • Complete probationary and mid-year and yearly performance evaluations of staff.
  • Assist in the hiring and progressive disciplinary process.
  • Confer with Facilities directors or managers as needed.
  • Assist as directed with residence hall turnover during summer months including working a revised work schedule as needed to complete duties.

Special Event Coordination

  • Coordinate and oversee special event set-up, coverage, and breakdown as directed including providing supervisory coverage for all major events.
  • Coordinate and oversee snow and ice removal and be available for off hours as needed.
  • Oversee and ensure the completion, accuracy, and efficiency of other campus services such as campus moves, painting, recycling and waste removal.

Employee Management

  • Supervise union custodians, maintenance specialists and contract custodial services.
  • Monitor attendance of union staff and maintain sufficient staffing levels, redirect staff as needed to ensure spaces are cleaned and ensure staffing levels are sufficient to accomplish work that is to be completed.
  • Provide and document training for the custodial staff in the proper use of equipment, supplies, and proper cleaning practices.
  • Ensure adherence to safe work practices in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations as well as all University policies and procedures.

Additional Functions

  • Provide daily building visual inspections and monthly written inspection reports to maintain a high level of service.
  • Ensure custodial storeroom is fully stocked, clean, and organized.
  • Inspect custodial equipment to ensure good working order, cleanliness, maintenance, and proper storage.
  • Ensure building repairs and maintenance issues are reported, with Public Safety as needed.
  • Use University resources in an efficient and prudent manner.


Job Requirements:
  • A minimum of five to ten years of experience in a related field.
  • Supervisory experience with a building maintenance operation, preferably in a multi-building site.
  • Experience working with an employee timekeeping system.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must be available to work on call as needed and during summer months when work schedule may change as determined by supervisor.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Knowledge of APPA and ISSA standards.
  • Facilities experience in a higher education environment.
  • Experience supervising union employees.
