Overview

JBT Marel Corporation (JBTM) is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Tax Manager to join our team. The Tax Manager will play a crucial role in managing and overseeing the company's US tax compliance and global tax provision functions. This position requires a strong understanding of federal and state tax regulations, as well as experience in global tax provision and US GAAP/ASC 740 reporting. The Tax Manager will report to the Head of Tax Operations and will have direct supervisory responsibility for the Sr. Tax Analyst.



Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Compliance:

Federal:

  • Manage the preparation and review of the consolidated federal income tax return, subsidiary, and separate basis income tax returns, including related Schedule M-3 calculations and supporting workpapers/appendices.
  • Analyze risks and sustainability of various tax positions taken in the tax filings.
  • Supervise the work of Tax Staff Members, providing detailed review points and guidance.
  • Ensure all new accounts are incorporated into relevant tax software and chart of accounts.
  • Manage the preparation and analysis of JBTM’s  U.S. federal taxable income calculations, corporate federal estimated tax payments, and extensions.
  • Work closely with the International Tax Manager with respect to all foreign reporting, including GILTI/FDII/BEAT/163(j) calculations.
  • Monitor regulatory updates and assess impact to JBTM

State:

  • Manage the preparation and review of state tax returns, including review of apportionment information, modification of state-specific information, and various state tax credits and incentives.
  • Prepare and review Information Document Request (IDR) responses relating to State Income Tax audits.
  • Analyze risks and sustainability of various tax positions taken in the tax filings.
  • Prepare and review state tax estimated payments, state tax provisions, and state tax accruals.

Provision:

Domestic:

  • Manage the preparation and review of US taxable income and deferred tax calculations.
  • Complete the US tax payable account reconciliation.
  • Prepare tax entries for US tax provision, as well as top-side entries to record the correct global tax provision.

Global:

  • Review tax reporting from non-US locations and identify potential issues.
  • Assist with follow-up and resolution of items identified as potential issues in non-US review.
  • Prepare and review the quarterly and annual income tax provision under ASC 740, including analysis of the income tax provision, effective tax rate, and tax account reconciliations, and recording tax entries.
  • Work with the Sr Manager Reporting Systems to update the financial consolidation tool for changes to tax rates and tax reporting schedules.

Other Responsibilities:

Acquisitions:

  • Prepare tax opening balance sheet analysis and tax acquisition memos.
  • Assist with due diligence and post-acquisition tax planning as requested.
  • Collect and review final pre-acquisition tax returns from sellers or sellers' tax preparer and analyze for tax reporting impacts to JBTM.

Sarbanes-Oxley:

  • Support effective design, operation, and monitoring of global tax controls and maintain compliance with Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.

Forecasting:

  • Assist in the annual preparation of estimated global tax expense for budget and forecasting purposes. Develop and maintain a standardized approach to communicate changes in the forecasted rate due to discrete items, jurisdictional mix, and other issues.

Process/System Improvements:

  • Continually support best practices to ensure efficient, accurate, and repeatable results. Maintain and administer tax software and tools used for tax reporting and compliance.

M&A/Tax Planning:

  • Support analysis and assessment of income tax accounting impacts for the company from unique transactions, acquisitions, restructurings, and other planning projects.

Audits:

  • Manage US, state, and local tax audits and assist on foreign tax audits as appropriate.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting; CPA preferred.
  • Extensive experience in federal and state tax compliance and provision.
  • Strong understanding of ASC 740 and global tax reporting.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience in managing and developing tax teams.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across departments.
