Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C. is hiring a Network Administrator in Richmond, Virginia. The Network Administrator position is responsible for maintaining and monitoring the local and wide area network environment by identifying network requirements, installing upgrades, and monitoring network performance. Additional responsibilities include assisting other IT Team members with technically complex issues, prioritizing daily workloads, system evaluations and recommending annual upgrades. Seeking candidates with a bachelor's or Associates degree in a related degree program or minimum of 4 years’ related experience. Cisco and/or Microsoft network certification preferred.

Requirements for the Network Administrator position include:

  • Practical understanding of Network Support/troubleshooting.
  • Practical knowledge of Microsoft Windows based Operating System w/emphasis on Windows client and server platform.
  • Practical understanding of PC/Server Hardware setup and configuration.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products, including advanced Excel data base skills.
  • Detailed understanding and knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of relational databases and concepts.
  • Highly analytical, passion for details, and capable of translating analytical insights into action.
  • Ability to effectively resolve issues in a timely manner using sound judgement, critical thinking, problem solving, decision making, and influencing skills.
  • Strong organization skills with the ability to effectively prioritize (with changing priorities), multi-task, address issues quickly and professionally, and meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated with strong work ethic.
  • Must possess ability to train users in the use of software and technology.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must possess ability to clearly and concisely communicate technical information to non-technical users.
  • Experience working with remote users, distributed teams, software and support vendors preferred.
  • Must be willing to travel to other locations and conduct off premise training sessions.

Physical requirements must be met for the Network Administrator job, including the ability sit or stand for prolonged periods of time. Able to lift, carry and maneuver items up to 20 pounds in weight. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
