Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary:
Access Services Technicians provide support to the Access Services department of Falvey Library. Technicians are responsible for conducting the following tasks:
Process library materials for 24/7 Holds Pickup. This includes pulling requested materials from the library stacks, checking out requested materials to patrons in the library’s ILS system, and arranging checked out materials on the pickup shelves.
Shelve returned books and maintain book stacks. Move book carts. Lift and carry books. Search for missing books.
Process interlibrary loan materials and update records in specialized library software and systems. Scan pages in journals and books for electronic delivery. Ship materials to other libraries via UPS software. Open incoming packages and sort contents for processing.
Retrieve materials from local and remote locations. Perform light clerical work, routine office tasks, and run errands as directed.
Participate and contribute to library projects as assigned by Access Services staff.
Requirements:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strict attention to detail and reliability are required.
Ability to perform repetitive tasks with great accuracy and consistency required.
Excellent interpersonal skills; able to handle difficult situations; customer service experience preferred.
Experience using hardware (laptops, pc’s, printers, scanners, mobile devices), software (Windows, Mac, web browsers, Novasis, Webmail, Blackboard), and wireless network access preferred.
Familiarity with the library’s catalog, journals, databases and web search engines preferred.
Cross training in multiple areas required.
Preference will be given to students who can begin work in May and work into August.

Summer Library Service Hours Monday — Thursday: 9am-5pm (May 19 – May 27) Monday — Thursday: 9am-7pm (May 28 – July 28) Monday – Thursday: 9am-5pm (July 29-August 14) Monday – Friday: 9am-5pm (August 18 – 22) Saturday and Sunday: 12pm-5pm (August 23 and 24)
All student employees must complete hiring paperwork online before they can be hired. Also, new student employees must go to the Human Resources Office in person to show original forms of employment authorization and identification required for the I-9 form.
Physical Demands Summary:
Prolonged sitting, standing, and walking for up to 4 hours at a time; frequent bending and lifting; able to lift 30 lbs. of library materials while moving/walking; pushing and pulling a book truck (4 wheels) of library materials weighing between 50 and 100 lbs.; ability to climb several flights of stairs on an occasional basis.
Wage Rate:$11.25/hour
