Position Summary:

The VDC Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining VDC standards and processes. This position will focus on enhancing project efficiency through the standardization of deliverables, model development, and the creation of specialized templates and assemblies. In collaboration with project managers and various stakeholders, the VDC Specialist ensures project execution plans align with client expectations and regulatory standards. Additionally, the VDC specialist serves as an in-house expert on BIM tools, facilitating training, integration of new software features, and ongoing process improvements. The VDC Specialist is responsible for researching and adopting innovative tools like Artificial Intelligence, GIS, and visualization technologies to advance PEC’s VDC capabilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Finalize, document, and maintain VDC standards for project deliverables and model development, ensuring consistency across projects.
  • Implement project execution plans, collaborating with project managers to align with client expectations and regulatory standards.
  • Develop standard file setups, sheet layouts, and assembly libraries for various project types. Establish standard layouts for plans tailored to client standards.
  • Develop training materials and processes for staff on corridor modeling, assembly libraries, and tools. Provide one-on-one training for new hires and project-specific guidance for staff.
  • Lead integration efforts of advanced tools to enhance project efficiency. Further develop modeling processes and libraries within BIM software.
  • Research and implement emerging technologies like AI, GIS capabilities, and visualization tools to advance municipal transportation VDC capabilities. Explore opportunities for work-sharing between platforms.
  • Attend industry functions to build relationships, strengthen client connections, and promote PEC’s brand. Develop and offer external training courses in BIM software, partnering with local colleges and universities for educational outreach.
  • Take on other projects and responsibilities as needed to support the company’s evolving needs.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficient in BIM software with experience in engineering design projects.
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective training sessions for team members, including one-on-one guidance for new hires and project-specific training in VDC tools and processes.
  • Skilled in creating and implementing project execution plans, ensuring alignment with client standards, regulatory requirements, and departmental goals.
  • Understanding of GIS applications within Autodesk products and experience with visualization tools to enhance project engagement and design.
  • Open to exploring and adopting new technologies, including AI applications, to improve efficiency and advance PEC’s VDC standards.
  • Strong communication skills for building relationships at industry events, enhancing client engagement, and representing PEC’s brand effectively.
  • Competence in facilitating interoperability between Bentley and Autodesk products.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent in a relevant field (such as Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture) or a combination of technical training and related experience equivalent to a four-year degree.
  • Professional Experience in engineering projects, with a strong understanding of VDC and BIM standards and other relevant Autodesk tools.
  • Technical Training in VDC/BIM Software: Formal training in BIM software, demonstrating advanced skills in model development and project execution.
  • Prior Experience in Training and Mentorship: Proven ability to train and mentor team members in VDC standards, software use, and engineering processes.
  • Field Experience (Preferred): Previous experience on construction sites or direct involvement in construction project phases to provide a comprehensive understanding of project challenges and requirements.
  • Licenses and Certifications (Preferred): Relevant software certifications (e.g., Autodesk, Civil 3D) are advantageous but not required, depending on experience.

Duties involved require moving materials that weigh up to 10 pounds on a regular basis and up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, mouse, calculator and similar machines. At times, bending, reaching, standing, and walking may be required.
