Position Summary:
The ITTA Programmer I position is an entry-level role focused on developing foundational programming competencies under direct supervision. This position is designed to build essential technical skills and application knowledge, serving as a gateway to advancement within the ITTA Programmer/Analyst series. The role supports enterprise-level student and business functions at the university.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Perform basic programming tasks using the SOL language in both Unix and Windows environments.
  • Develop and maintain simple retrieval programs, including data extracts, dumps, and subsystem feeds for application-specific and reporting purposes.
  • Assist in the creation of internal and limited external reports for ITS operations.
  • Learn and apply basic Unix shell scripting techniques and command-line utilities.
  • Navigate and interact with relational databases; utilize basic database query and exploration techniques.
  • Use TOAD or similar database development tools to support programming and data analysis activities.
  • Transfer files securely via secure FTP protocols.
  • Utilize Telnet and Remote Desktop Protocols (RDP) for remote server access and troubleshooting.
  • Employ desktop navigation skills and make use of common productivity applications (Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, etc.).
  • Draft basic program documentation and develop straightforward user instructions to accompany developed tools and reports.


Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

. 1. Any combination that totals four years from the following:
  • 60 semester hours or an Associate Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems (=1 year) and three years of experience
  • 90-120 semester hours or Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, CMIS or related field (=2 years) and two years of experience
2. Specific coursework/experience in relational database programming (SQL and PL/SQL) and analysis, with exposure to HTML, Java, JavaScript, XML and JSON.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical team members;
  • Certification as an Oracle Developer is a plus;
  • Must be able to work and contribute in a collaborative team environment;
  • Must be self-motivated and flexible in accepting duties and direction;
  • Must demonstrate ability to apply technical programmatic solutions with moderate supervision.
