Job Description:

SUMMARY:

The Tool and Die Maker, makes replacement parts for mechanical equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Constructs and repairs jigs, fixtures, cutting tools, gauges, or metal dies or molds used in shaping or forming metal or nonmetallic material (e.g., plastic, plaster, rubber, glass).
  • Plans and lays out work according to models, blueprints, drawings, or other written or oral
  • specifications, understanding the working properties of common metals and alloys.
  • Selects appropriate materials, tools, and processes required to complete tasks.
  • Makes necessary shop computations.
  • Sets up and operates various machine tools and related equipment.
  • Uses various Tool and Die Maker's hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Working to very close with heat-treating metal parts and finished tools and dies to achieve required qualities.
  • Fitting and assembling parts to prescribed tolerances and allowances.
  • All work is accomplished IAW with the applicable Army regulations, DA PAMs, Technical Manuals, Technical Bulletins, and Repair Manuals.
  • Interprets written instructions and specifications, planning and laying out of work, using a variety of machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Responsible for the shaping of metal parts to close tolerances.

  • This position supports the DOD on a federal installation and the candidate must be available to work at the assigned physical location during business hours.

    • 7:30AM-4:30PM (M-F)

Requirements:

  • EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

    Essential :
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Requires rounded training in machine shop and tool room practice usually acquired through formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience. All work is accomplished IAW with the applicable Army regulations, DA PAMs, Technical Manuals, Technical Bulletins, and Repair Manuals.
  • 2 years demonstrated experience and documented training from an accredited agency.
  • Knowledge of the working properties of the common metals, selecting standard materials, parts, and equipment required for this work; and fitting and assembling parts into mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to identify needed remedies or improvements and recommend solutions.

Ability to read, comprehend and explain instructions, letters, memos, emails, and correspondence from inside the organization as well as from external sources. Ability to effectively respond, communicate and present information to customers, internal and external, clients and other employees in the organization. Ability to interpret instructions and information and explain to others in the performance of this job in English.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Required to walk, stand, sit and move about the property for long periods of time. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling material.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/HOURS:

This position is not eligible for remote work, as the essential functions of the role require the employee to perform duties on-site. May be exposed to inclement/extreme weather conditions. May work on concrete floors and in drafty areas. Wearing of protective wear and other safety equipment is required during all periods of exposure to hazardous conditions. The noise level in the work environment may vary from moderate to high, depending on location. Job will require working flexible hours, sometimes under short notice, to accommodate for mission requirements to include weekends and holidays. Overtime may be required.

• Background & Drug Screening: Employment requires passing a background check and pre-employment drug screening. Random drug and alcohol testing may also occur without prior notice.

• Timesheets: Record your actual work hours daily and ensure your entries are accurate and timely to support smooth operations.

• Dress & Punctuality: Arrive on time and dress appropriately for your shift.
