Position Summary: 

The Sr. Database Engineer is an integral part of the Technology Operations team and overall service delivery of production and development systems. The Sr. Database Engineer is responsible for administering databases along all aspects of the service lifecycle. This position requires a diligent pursuit to develop, scale, improve, and support database services within the organization.  Does this sound like you?

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the deployment, configuration, monitoring, and ongoing operations of relational and non-relational database services
  • Engage with Development teams and Operations peers to develop, scale and improve database systems and services
  • Administer systems as assigned to provide appropriate documentation, capacity management, monitoring, and recommendations for future state
  • Participate in a production support on-call rotation, completing incident and problem management tasks as assigned
  • Escalate support tasks to other teams or technology management when needed
  • Develop and maintain backup and recovery procedures for database services
  • Develop reports and other applications necessary to support database service operations
  • Administer user and application access to database services
  • Create and support scripts for use in daily maintenance and troubleshooting tasks; demonstrate troubleshooting skills to provide resolution to incidents and problem management projects
  • Understand and follow procedures identified by SOX and other security standards
  • Meet or exceed performance, availability, and recoverability requirements for database services
  • Work collaboratively with team members to analyze current systems and recommend and implement changes to current systems

Location: 

  • In this hybrid role, you will be required to work onsite from our Minneapolis office one day (Wednesday) per week.     

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 6 years of related experience; or a Master's degree with 4 years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience interacting with databases and working knowledge of database structures and design
  • Experience supporting Oracle, Postgres, or MySQL
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure, or other cloud computing services
  • Experience with Python or other programming language outside of shell scripting
  • Experience with software version control like git or SVN
  • Basic systems engineering skills on Linux with experience running databases on Linux
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and tasks concurrently in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate (written and verbal) with persons at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to think strategically, as well as curiosity to develop additional technical skills

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Advanced systems engineering skills on Linux with experience running Oracle databases
  • Experience with Terraform
  • Experience with Ansible, Chef, or any other configuration and automation management framework
  • Ability to understand application architecture and its impact on database design
  • Experience and practical knowledge of agile development process

The salary range for this role considers several factors, including education, relevant skills, work history, certifications, location, and more.  

The annual salary range for this role is: $100,200- $150,400. The actual salary offered will be determined based on the factors listed above and may fall anywhere within the range.
