JOB HIGHLIGHTS

The Business Systems Director leads the development and enhancement of key business systems in support of an ambitious conservation mission. With business leaders, the Director helps to identify and capitalize upon opportunities to better deploy technology to meet current and evolving business needs in a dynamic environment. The ideal candidate will have broad systems implementation experience, a continuous improvement mindset and demonstrated skill operating at both the strategic and tactical level.   

The Business Systems Director reports to the Chief Information Officer and works in close partnership with business leadership. The position will supervise Business Systems Manager/Reporting Analyst and will regularly lead or direct the work of others, including outside contractors. The Director will manage the entire project life cycle on assigned initiatives, from requirements gathering through business analysis, product selection (where appropriate), project planning, testing, and implementation.   In addition to this key application development role, the Director will also support the ongoing effective use of existing organization-wide systems or tools, especially the finance system, Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) system, and the conservation project database. The Director will work with the relevant business owners to manage application vendor relationships, ensure the deployment of appropriate user training, and oversee system governance and an appropriate user access framework.

  • Acquire and maintain an understanding of a complex and decentralized organization. Analyze business processes and the use of technology by different parts of the organization and engage regularly with relevant department leaders to stay abreast of business needs.
  • Develop and execute project plans to deploy technology within assigned business areas, managing vendors and coordinating with all relevant internal department leaders. In the immediate term, oversee CRM system transition.
  • Document business requirements and design/develop solutions, identifying resource implications. Partner with leadership to select course of action and prioritize business application initiatives.
  • With relevant business owners, develop and implement internal governance structure to manage ongoing system enhancements.
  • In partnership with business leaders, oversee day-to-day functional use and integration of key business systems, helping users to maximize the productivity of the tools at their disposal. Stay abreast of product changes and work with business owner(s) on necessary action plans.
  • Help develop and implement technology solution to support robust reporting of organizational data and metrics. Develop and oversee Reporting/Business Analysis function.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, interview, hire, and develop staff. Set clear performance objectives, maintain an inclusive work environment, and conduct constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • Manage relationships with contractors and oversee products.

 

WHAT WE NEED YOU TO HAVE

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least seven years related experience. Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field.
  • Innovative thinker, with a track record of problem solving, developing action plans, and delivering results.
  • Experience managing projects to implement complex IT systems, including accounting, fundraising, and/or ERP systems.
  • Expert knowledge of current and evolving IT trends.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact with individuals at all levels of the organization and manage vendor/contractor relationships.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and leadership skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond to changing business needs.

 

WHAT WE’D LIKE YOU TO HAVE

  • Advanced degree or project management certification.
  • Nonprofit experience and familiarity with fundraising systems.
  • Salesforce experience.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT 

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.  Work is performed primarily in an office setting.
  • Estimated travel – 5 - 10%

 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS 

The salary range for this position is $150,000 - $170,000, and the position is eligible for opportunities to earn performance-based bonus compensation. Please note: Salary range provided is an estimate and will be evaluated on an individual basis, taking into consideration the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, and education. The final salary offer will be determined accordingly.
