Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.

Position Summary:

Massachusetts Bay Community College invites applicationsfor a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of AssistantProfessor of Cybersecurity from qualified applicants. The ideal candidate willdemonstrate a passion for teaching and promoting success among a diversestudent population. Faculty members are responsible for developing educationaland evaluation materials consistent with National Center of Academic Excellence(NCAE) guidelines as well as the philosophy and framework of the program,MassBay Community College, and the Computer Science program in accordance withthe evolving needs of the STEM division.

The successful candidate will be comfortable offeringhands-on laboratory courses using current technologies, software, and tools.The highest priority topics of relevance for expertise in teaching arecybersecurity fundamentals, network security, and application security. Knowledgeof incident response and forensics, penetration testing, security operations,emerging technologies and trends, and information security management ispreferred. Teaching, advising, and mentoring are also expected to supportstudents’ growth in technical interviewing, writing, and project managementwithin the Cybersecurity domain. The successful candidate will employ theseareas of expertise toward the purpose of the Cybersecurity program, which is toprovide a cybersecurity generalist foundation on which learners can narrowtheir focus moving forward in their careers, further education, and/orcontinuing professional learning. The ideal applicant will possess a strongunderstanding of the critical role community colleges play in workforcedevelopment and in facilitating seamless transfer pathways to four-yearinstitutions, ensuring student success in higher education and careeradvancement. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment tocollaboration and professional development. The successful candidate will helpthe Computer Science department and specifically the Cybersecurity programdevelop relevant courses and teaching strategies for students with diverseinterests and learning styles to support student recruitment and retention. TheCybersecurity faculty member is responsible for maintaining their certificationto fulfill the ongoing needs of this position.

Courses may be held in the classroom at the Wellesleycampus (in-person), in the hybrid (with in-person lab session) or onlineenvironment. However, the candidate must be able to teach on campus as mostclasses are taught in-person on campus or hybrid. The candidate will have theopportunity to shape the curriculum and engage in recruitment ofunderrepresented students as well as community-based outreach activities usingthe College’s state-of-the-art Cyber Range.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Teach a full-time (15 credit hours per semester) schedule of Cybersecurity courses based on the need for each semester, which may include, but are not limited to the list found online in the academic catalog;
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
  • Work and collaborate effectively with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff;
  • Prepare course syllabi and develop curricula to meet course and program requirements and student learning outcomes;
  • Serve as academic advisor to students, with expertise in advising and mentoring minoritized students;
  • Post and maintain a minimum of four (4) office hours per week;
  • Participate in the improvement and development of academic programs and resources, designations, accreditation, articulation, and assessment of courses and programs;
  • Collaborate on selecting, recommending, creating, and preparing suitable instructional materials, lab experiences, simulations, and demonstrations that utilize a wide variety of teaching methods and modalities;
  • Submit midterm and final grade reports, attendance records, early alerts, and other reports pertaining to assigned courses by required due dates;
  • Serve on College committees as elected or appointed;
  • Attend program, division, and committee meetings;
  • Assist the program and STEM Dean in recruiting qualified adjunct faculty as needed;
  • Engage in professional development activities to maintain excellence in teaching and learning;
  • Carry out other related duties as assigned by the Dean consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degreein Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or Computer Science from anaccredited university;
  • Post-secondary teaching experience;
  • Relevant industry experience inCybersecurity, or Information Technology with a focus on Cybersecurity.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Cybersecurity or Information Technology from an accredited university;
  • Current cybersecurity-related certifications or licenses (e.g., CISSP, CompTIA Security+, Cisco CCNA, Cisco security) or a commitment to pursuing these;
  • Ability to adapt CompTIA training into the instruction of relevant courses;
  • Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action and workforce diversity;
  • Experience working in a diverse environment;
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved and minoritized students;
  • Teaching experience at a community college;
  • Two years of teaching experience in credit-bearing courses at the college level or equivalent industry training experience;
  • Demonstrated versatility in teaching a range of courses offered in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or Information Technology programs;
  • Experience in curricular planning and assessment as well as practices, technologies, and inclusive pedagogy to enhance student learning;
  • Experience with distance learning and/or alternate instructional delivery systems;
  • Experience with federal and/or state grants;
  • Interest in and familiarity with workforce development needs in the regional community;
  • Experience with outreach activities with K-12 schools.

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $70,000-$80,000, in accordance with one'seducation and experience as dictated by the collective bargaining agreementclassification compensation structure.
