Position Summary

The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing bakery operations, ensuring efficient, high-quality production across all departments. This role involves providing strategic direction and hands-on leadership in Production, Maintenance Engineering, Food Safety, Sanitation, Distribution, Compliance and Administration. The Operations Manager will enforce policies, procedures and processes that maximize safety, efficiency, and quality in the facility.

  • Visionary Leadership: Inspire and motivate teams to achieve high performance and foster a culture of trust, engagement, innovation and excellence.
  • Strategic Thinking: Develop and implement strategies that enhance operational efficiencies and support long-term business objectives.
  • Goals: Drives operational excellence by setting, aligning and managing bakery SMART Goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-Bound).
  • Problem Solving: Exhibits the ability to solve complex challenges and make informed decisions.
  • Team Development: Mentor and develop department leaders and promote professional growth and succession planning.
  • Effective Communication: Maintain open and transparent communication channels across all levels of the organization.

Preferred Education/Experience

  • 5+ years of experience that demonstrates increasing responsibility, leadership and subject matter expertise, preferably in a food manufacturing facility.
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in a relevant field.
  • Experience in commercial bakeries or in food manufacturing is ideal
  • Experience in leading teams in a unionized manufacturing environment is highly desirable.
  • Proven track record of cultivating a strong safety culture.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate across all levels of the organization.

Critical Skills and Expertise

  • Strong management and leadership skills that drive continued improvements.
  • Experience leading and motivating teams to perform in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with particular emphasis on solving and coaching others in conflicts.
  • Excellent practical business acumen with the ability to proactively sense and solve complex bakery production issues.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office suite (Outlook, Word and Excel).
  • Solid analytical skills and ability to develop, translate and drive data-based decisions of company financials.
  • Experience in developing large budgets, forecasting and demonstrates prudent fiscal responsibility.
