Position Summary

This role works with our Accounting and Finance group. This is an exciting opportunity to manage the payroll process of multiple operating entities across the United States and Canada. This position will primarily be responsible for the hands-on leadership of the entire payroll process and ensuring union and regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will partner with the operations and corporate teams, leading the effort to improve procedures and create value added processes where possible. This position offers a unique opportunity for an individual to participate across all company levels in the organization and provide key contributions that will facilitate strategic growth across the Traylor Construction Group

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Hands-on leadership of the payroll process
  • Ensure compliance of payroll and benefit related policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Supervise work of payroll administrators
  • Maintain current knowledge and ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal tax, wage and hour laws and requirements
  • Ensure compliance with union agreements and remit reports and payments as necessary
  • Prepare periodic reporting including W-2s, Affordable Care Act, and other reports for external purposes
  • Perform various account reconciliations, and provide general ledger support
  • Stay current on payroll system including maintaining employee benefit and deductions, tax tables, and other burdens
  • Serve as point of contact for employee questions and requests from outside parties
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure all employee payroll and benefit related matters are accurately and timely handled
  • Assist with continuous focus on key performance indicators and improvements
  • Perform additional duties as directed
  • Travel as required to attend, but not limited to, meetings, job site visits, training, etc. - 5% estimated travel

Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of thorough understanding of US payroll regulations, multi-state, and supervision experience
  • Thorough knowledge of Canadian and Provincial payroll regulations preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Administration, Business or equivalent work experience
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles, HR practices and procedures, and payroll-related system transactional flow and their impact to the general ledger
  • Must be highly organized; pay meticulous attention to detail and accuracy
  • Adaptable, flexible team player. Possess a positive, can-do attitude when working with team and employees
  • Strong communication (verbal and written), problem-solving, analytical and decision-making skills
  • A certain degree of creativity and latitude
  • Must have a philosophy that is consistent with the Mission, Vision and Core Values of the organization
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision required
  • Excellent ability to prioritize, and stay organized in a busy, fast-growth environment
  • Exhibit extraordinary discretion, confidentiality, flexibility, and willingness to work closely with all levels of an organization both internally and externally
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel is essential

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs
  • Must be able to talk, listen, and speak clearly on the telephone
  • Requires sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and routine keyboard operations
