Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Systems Designer will be responsible for all design aspects of Motion Solutions projects. The position will require a strong working knowledge of system design including hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical hardware. The designer will be required to review and understand engineering and customer requirements and refine a design that will meet and exceed these requirements. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to manage a workload and the assigned tasks provided. Design moderately complex systems under the oversight of fellow systems engineers. As a Systems Designer one will need to interface daily with other system engineers and designers, fabrication personnel, and customers directly.

Primary Duties:

  • Accompany the systems engineers in conversations with customers as required.
  • Provide training and mentorship to fellow team members on CAD design best practices and methods.
  • Assert diligent efforts to ask all the necessary questions which leads MFCP to a profitable engineered solution for the customer.
  • Develop full system designs to be submitted to the customer for review and approval.
  • Develop detailed fabrication drawings, weldments, tube/pipe routings, and manifold designs that provides clear direction to the production team.
  • Learn and understand the production teams fabrication capabilities and help develop design standards that drive efficiency in production.
  • Interface with fellow systems engineers directly to ensure the design meets customer’s expectations fully.
  • Utilize Autocad 2D and Inventor 3D to support the design and documentation of systems.
  • Manage and implement Vault standards and best practices as it pertains to document control, file management, parts libraries, parts authoring, and drawing lifecycle.
  • Manage engineering software annual software upgrades and coordinate them with the IT team.
  • Participate in internal design reviews with engineers and technicians.

  • Multi-trade experience including hydraulic or gas/air type systems as well as electrical systems.
  • AutoCAD 2D and 3D experience is a must as well as a familiarity with the Vault Document Management system.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as welding, fabricating, metal forming, laser cutting, assembly, etc and apply that knowledge to ensure the design is feasible.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including word, excel, PowerPoint and Project to support customer letters, project updates, email, reports, group meeting preparation and training support.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Job requires occasionally lifting objects up to 35 pounds, bending to retrieve equipment, parts, hose reels, to perform pressure testing and to push, pull or slide heavy objects. Standing for long periods of time while cutting, crimping, blowing out, tagging, and plugging hoses.
  • Frequent repetitive grasping, twisting, pushing, and pulling use of the hands. Occasionally use hydraulic crimping equipment, saws, pressure testing stand, small power tools and various other hand tools. Some materials or processes used in hose production may generate odors. Hose production is in a non-air-conditioned area of our facility which may experience high or low seasonal temperatures.

Salary:

$75,000 - $90,000/yearly - Commensurate with skills and experience.
