Job Purpose:

As Marine Insurance Manager, you will lead the Freight Services Liability and Cargo All Risks (marine) insurance classes, playing a vital role in shaping and executing DHL Group’s global marine insurance strategy. Working closely with regional insurance managers and cross-functional teams, you’ll assess marine risks across our diverse logistics operations, ensure compliance with local and global regulations, and provide risk financing solutions aligned with our strategic objectives.

You’ll act as a trusted advisor on all marine insurance matters, helping to safeguard DHL’s global operations while driving continuous improvement in programme design, placement, claims analytics, and financial performance.

 

Your tasks:

  • Manage and maintain DHL’s global marine insurance programmes, ensuring alignment with Group strategy and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop deep knowledge of DHL’s services, contract terms, and marine risk exposures to design and implement effective insurance solutions.
  • Oversee insurance policy renewals, market negotiations, claims vs. premium performance, and accurate financial reporting.
  • Collaborate with regional insurance managers to optimize coverage and leverage global buying power.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and guidance to business units, legal, contract management, and operations teams regarding marine insurance and risk pricing.
  • Analyze loss data and claims trends to identify emerging risks and recommend appropriate coverage responses.
  • Support governance, peer review, and contract review processes, maintaining compliance with regulatory and internal standards.
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives, digitalization efforts, and group-wide IRM projects.
  • Represent IRM in stakeholder interactions, including insurers, brokers, claims handlers, and internal partners.
 

Your profile:

  • University degree in business, law, or related field. Professional insurance qualifications preferred (ACII, FCII, CPCU, etc.).
  • 10–15 years in marine insurance, ideally within a global insurer, broker, or in-house corporate function.
  • Proven cross-border marine insurance programme management
  • Strong grasp of marine insurance law and international trade regulations
  • Experience with contract risk management and pricing within delegated authority
  • Solid understanding of logistics, transport terms, warehousing, and global supply chains
  • Exceptional communication skills; able to explain technical content to non-experts
  • Strong analytical, reporting, and project management abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Power BI is a plus)
  • Familiarity or interest in digital tools, data automation, and process optimization
  • Fluent in English; additional languages are an asset
  • Strategic thinker, highly organized, collaborative, and globally minded with a strong sense of ownership and initiative.
