Position Purpose
As a Fire Applications Engineer, you will be primarily responsible for preparing submittals, creating estimates, and generating system installation prints for Fire Alarm projects based on plans, specifications, and/or existing site conditions. You will provide technical expertise in the design, selection, and application of Fire Alarm Systems for various projects. Additionally, you will work closely with sales, engineering, and project management teams to ensure customer satisfaction and project success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Effectively design fire alarm systems and prepare fire alarm drawings according to contract specifications for building those systems.
  • Design and select fire alarm systems based on project specifications, codes, and industry standards.
  • Develop detailed installation prints based on the project scope within budget while maintaining schedule.
  • Work closely with project management teams to ensure that projects are executed on time, within budget, and meet customer requirements.
  • Provide technical support during the installation and commissioning of fire alarm systems.
  • Collaborate with other engineers and departments to improve product design and quality.
  • Prepare system documentation for the submittal process.
  • Work professionally and efficiently with the project personnel.
  • Support the department in bidding, designing, and executing various jobs and projects.
  • Work closely with installation teams to provide necessary documentation and support.
  • Assist in troubleshooting design issues and propose technical solutions to improve efficiency.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry codes, standards, and best practices for fire alarm system designs.
  • Travel may be required based on business unit and location needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in engineering or a related field, or at least 2 years of experience in fire alarm systems engineering and design, along with an Associate degree in Engineering or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to legally drive a motor vehicle.
  • Strong understanding of architectural drawings, electrical layouts, and security system schematics.
  • Knowledge of fire alarm systems, relevant codes governing installation and testing, fire alarm design, electrical systems, smoke removal systems, installation, management, and construction procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communications skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Strong skills in documentation and time management, with a consistent track record of meeting deadlines.
  • Experience in interpreting mechanical drawings, plans, and technical specifications.
  • Working knowledge of computer drafting software.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working experience with Visio and AutoCAD.
  • NICET Level III or higher.
  • Familiarity with electrical, low-voltage, and network system designs

  • This position may include sitting for extended periods, lifting, bending, and kneeling.
  • This position may include lifting to 25 lbs. from floor to countertop and countertop to floor.
